4 out of 5 stars Young loud and snotty.......2006-01-28

I was recently at a show at the Troubadour. I was there to see some band or other. I can't remember. But I remember that the first opening band was King Elementary. The place was packed with people to see the supporting band. They played when I got there. People left and it was very empty when the headliner played. I was thinking: who is this band? How can they be so popular? So now I have their CD and it sounds pretty good. It sounds generally like some new indie rock band, and if they played with Hot Hot Heat and Bloc Party I wouldn't think that would be so odd. King Elementary is pretty cool and apparently well connected.

5 out of 5 stars Astonishing!.......2005-08-11

I stumbled across them online (thanks to a Filter feature), and listened to a couple of tracks. Had to get it. It's still discouraging to think that they're all under 20 -- so what.

They craft excellent songs with the right combination of sweet & sour. Occasionally reminescent of the mid-90s indie guitar bands (including Sonic Youth, Archers of Loaf, etc.) but still touched by the modernity of bands like Hives and Strokes and Detroit garage. At times the singer reminds of Greg Duli of Afghan Whigs, his raspy yelps and pained delivery sound authentic (despite his pedigree) and the guitar work is careful but not overly thought and the drums and bass lay down solid groove and loads of energy (although I was skeptical at first of the snare sound). The songs are all gems with curiously mature lyrical strucutre.

Get this record! They are the next big thing.

These boys know how to rock! They take "high school garage band" to a whole new level. The talent that is demonstrated through this record is amazing considering their age. Tracks such as "Hit the Mirror" and "Rebecca" are destined to become the next well known hits. I loved this album and expect more great things from King Elementary!

5 out of 5 stars Finally a legitimately cool band.......2005-07-29

A sound that is not afraid to be original. Clearly stands out against the resurgence of rock bands that shape their sound around commercial infuences. These guys are the real deal.

5 out of 5 stars Young + Mississippi = Great Rock!.......2005-07-27

I can't believe these guys are this advanced musically at such a young age. A coworker gave me their new CD and I didn't think much of until I gave it a listen, then another listen, then another listen. I'm hooked to "Hit The Mirror" and can't wait to see these guys when I'm in L.A. in a few weeks.
