5 out of 5 stars Jan Errico was 1st Chair Triangle and Wood Block ---While I was 4th Chair Trumpet in 3 Chair Section.......2005-11-09

Mills and Capuchino High Schools - Sixties

Jan Errico was 1st Chair Triangle and Wood Block ---While I was 4th Chair Trumpet in 3 Chair Section.. Jan went on to be with the "Vejatables" and "We Five" (You Were On My Mind)

Humbling, but so was our band instructor Dwight Hall.

Billy Fulton, up the road a piece, went on to get the "Grass Roots" going and joined "Tower of Power". Wonder what happened to Julio and Al, Trumpet and Sax extrordiaires? Georgeann at 1st Chair Clarinet looking like a Greek Goddess and Jack on French Horn rounded out the "old" people.

Wait- Val Garay was there in spirit, new white chevy blazin in to the visiting Mills High parking lot. Mr. Hixon turning red.
I think he was there more than at Burlingame.

Val went on to produce some of the worlds greatest music :Val is a record producer and engineer who has worked with Kim Carnes, The Motels, Marty Balin, Gary U.S. Bonds, Joan Armatrading, Dolly Parton, Pablo Cruise, James Taylor, Queensrÿche, Cock Robin, Dramarama, E-Z-O, Ringo Starr, Linda Ronstadt, Nicolette Larson and TONS of others.
In 1982 he shared a Grammy Award for Record of the Year with Kim Carnes, for the record Bette Davis Eyes."

Anways this blurb got started by telling my kids and grandkids about Jan Errico, getting an A for hitting the triangle in Mr. Halls band class. I couldn't hit F# and she had such range!

5 out of 5 stars god bless van dyke parks.......2001-05-24

Ahh the mid 1960's. This C.D. captures something very unique. The Mojo Men evolved from a rather boring "dance with me" sock hop type band into a very unique folk rock harmony whirrling music box of a group. The main change was first when Jan Errico joined the group after leaving another group called The Vejtables.(Errico was reportedly chosen over Grace Slick to join the group)Then while he was on his lunch break from working on the Beach Boys mystery "smile," Van Dyke Parks took the reigns on the groups vocal and musical arrangements<think tack pianos, accordions, and ballalikas. "Sit down, I think I love you" is one of the most interesting and complex arrangements out of the 1960s. Another gem is the best ever version of "Me about you." Although the song was also recorded by the Turtles and later The Lovin'Spoonful, the combination of the bands vocal harmonies and arrangements by Van Dyke Parks makes their version of the song superior to the rest. The best way to sum it up is folk/art rock like the Mamas and the Papas meet Yes.
