Customer Reviews:
Great damn album........2007-04-14
Album is great. Something far from the beaten path. Although utilized in a major motion picture still allows you to be a snob of music. An album well worth listening to.
Quality album, misunderstood lyrics.......2006-08-06
As reviewed by another, it is easily put as a horrible lyrics, with their song Cells. Yet, it is highly misunderstood, in its glory. It is a beautiful album, with beautiful instrumentals, and deep lyrics once you gain a focus. Taking apart the lyrics,
"It'll all click when the mortgage clears
All our fears will disappear
Now you go to bed
I'm staying here
I've got another level that I want to clear "
Is clearly a struggle of dealing with the common troubles of finances, about surviving the next round of payments, and hope of it all clearing out. I've got another level easily implies that another bill just has to be taken care of.
"We should be more adventurous with our meals
They annoy me those who employ me
The could destroy me
The should enjoy me "
Expresses the average life brought down life, with the only thing to look forward for is the meals, and trying to bring enjoyment. Then the usual dinner complaint of the job.
Looking forward into more of the lyrics, you can sum the song up about being, they live an average, dull life that stresses the individual out, when all they want to do is be with the one they care for everyday, ignoring life's pressures and permenant fixtures.
Euro-pop perfection.......2006-01-17
This band was on one of the listening stations in Virgin Megastore in Paris. I listened to about 20 seconds of the first track before I picked it up to buy it. This band is amazing, and I wish there was some way I could know more bands like this that I otherwise would never hear about. The vocals on this record are incredible. The guitars are crystal clear. They have released "Liquify" as a single, which is a great peppy pop song, with keyboard bloops and catchy guitar riffs. The Servant is a perfect euro-pop band, but I don't think they will be coming over here anytime soon. This is worth the price. Seriously.
zomg, again........2005-12-24
I'm with Peter on this one - the instrumentals for Cells were great, used in both Transporter 2 and Sin City. But the singing. Oh lord, kill me now, this has got to be some of the worst vocal stylings ever.
And the lyrics are absolutely horrendous. The frontman sings about wanting to play video games ("I've got another level that I want to clear"), cooking ("we should be more adventurous with our meals"), eating ("we eat chinese off our knees"), and so forth. And that's only in the first VERSE of Cells. How the hell did such groovy music get such a horrible singer/writer? It's unbelievable. These guys are Britan's answer to garbage US bands like Hellogoodbye and Bowling For Soup.
I don't really know how this band ever got a record contract... oh wait, guess the music industry is the same all over the world, nothing but trash.
Apologies to anyone that thinks this music is actually good, but hey, you're wrong. Listen to it again and you'll realize it.
"The sun goes up and the sun goes down, I drag myself into the town, all I do I wanna do with you ...".......2005-09-27
I was introduced to The Servant the same way everyone else was: through the trailer for "Sin City", in which the instrumental version of their song "Cells" was used. I eventually found the album (it's not easy to get in America), and listened to it.
The album's greatest song is undisputedly "Cells". There's something about it that just makes it extremely catchy and cool. Maybe it's the guitar, or the vocals, or the heavy drums. I dunno, but it's a damn fine song. The album's other highlights are "Orchestra", "Jesus Says", and "Liquefy", but none light a candle to "Cells".
