Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars A DOO-WOP EXTRAVANGANZA!.......2006-02-17

The title says "Ultimate" jukebox hits of the fifties. I don't believe that is correct. But let's not dwell on the negative, at least, not at first. Positive stuff first. They are the original artists. It's tough to find good collections from certain eras of popular music. Good sound. Now the negatives.
Collectables left a lot of empty space on these discs. Either they should've made this a three disc set, or filled up the five discs. That's the knock on all their "Ultimate" sets - first disc is full, 20 tracks or more, the rest contain maybe 12 tracks. There are "NO" liner notes. Nothing. Not even the release dates of the tunes.
There is an overabundance of doo-wop groups here. Maybe too many. The 50's were when rock 'n roll was birthed. Where is it?
Maybe a coupling of this set with Rhino's "Loud, Fast, & Out of Control" box would be a good blend of 50's rock, doo-wop, and pop.
