5 out of 5 stars Some EPs just have it. This one does........2004-02-02

If my wallet of 200-some-odd CD's had never been stolen 3 1/2 years ago, I would not like this ep or this band. It took that tragic situation to force me to listen to this CD more than a couple of times (it was all I had left) to realize it's one of the best CDs ever made. I can't pick a favorite song. I love all four of them. They are my favorite Hey Mercedes songs to this day. Nothing on any of their later releases has impressed me as much as these four songs have. That seems to be at least my deal with this band . . . I really have to give their music time to grow on me, and I end up loving it as some of my favorite music. So if you imediately don't fall in love with this CD or any of their other stuff (if you do, awesome!), give them more than just a couple of listens. Kind of like giving that person you view as less attractive than the other girls you like a chance, and you discover that they're more than you could have ever asked for from those other "surface beauties." Hey Mercedes' music has depth and longitivity, and this album has the most of it.

5 out of 5 stars yesh.......2003-09-23

hey mercedes is way totally the best band out there. this ep kicked my ass in every way possible. the best song is for sure stay six. everyone buy loses control on oct 2nd. anyways yea its great. you wont like it at first... i didn't but after a while you will think, "wow this is pretty good" then after another while you will say "yeah, hey mercedes is definitely the best band ever" they have awesome guitars, the bass rocks, and the singer is unique and awesome

4 out of 5 stars Four great songs.......2002-03-27

It's good to see that 3/4 of Braid has gone on to great things. On this EP, there are lots of similarities to Braid (just compare "St. James St." to "Collect From Clark Kent" off of Frame And Canvas), but Hey Mercedes also sets out into their own sonic territory. The witty lyrics and biting guitars are still here, but Hey Mercedes sticks to more traditional rhytms and song structures. The hooks aren't as strong as they could be in a couple of tunes, but for a first recording this is great. Highly recommended if you enjoy earlier Promise Ring or newer emo bands such as Brandtson.

5 out of 5 stars Terrible Band Name, Outstanding Music.......2001-05-13

To the guys in Hey Mercedes: HOME RUN!!! Can hardly wait for the new CD! To any who care to hear my two cents worth, here 'tis. I don't give five stars lightly: This EP is GREAT for getting the blood pumpin'! Even if you believe people who play air guitar (or air drums) are wannabes, losers or idiots (your baggage, not theirs), you may find yourself playing air guitar (or air drums) once you put this puppy in your CD player. Simply stated, it ROCKS! First heard Hey Mercedes while watching X2Day on ESPN and checked 'em out via Amazon.com. Liked the samples, ordered the EP and it's been getting regular play ever since I received it. The guitar, the voice, the rhythms, the tunes all kick a**; there isn't a bad tune on the EP. In other words, I'm REALLY lookin' forward to their full-length CD release in Jul 01. (For those Braid fans who believe Hey Mercedes is a pale imitation, I gotta tell ya: Braid? Never heard of 'em. But I will check them out one o' these days, soon as I get my fill of Hey Mercedes...)
