Album Description

Nektar's 1977 studio album is presented for the first time remastered from the first generation master tapes. By the time of its recording guitarist Roye Albrighton had departed the fold to be replaced by Dave Nelson. Featuring stand out tracks such as 'Away From Asgard', 'Listen' and 'Magic is a Child', the Dream Nebula reissue also includes a bonus track in the form of an alternate version of 'Train to Nowhere' featuring contributions from King Crimson guitarist Robert Fripp. Bellaphone. 2003.

Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars Magical Nektar.......2005-12-14

Though not quite in the same class as "Remember the Future" or "A Tab in the Ocean," "Magic Is a Child" is in retrospect quite a good album. It contains artmetal mayhem ("Away from Asgard" and "The Trucker"), several nice ballads (the title track and "Listen") as well as the ethereal "Train to Nowhere" (my personal favorite track on the album) and the rocking "Spread Your Wings." Roye Albrighton's presence on guitar is definitely missed, but Dave Nelson, perhaps unexpectedly, turns in a fine performance. Great cover art, too!

4 out of 5 stars Nektar made it happen again!.......2000-05-29

I bought this album many moons ago, with some trepidation, as Nektar was adding a new lead guitar to the ensemble, in the personage of Dave Nelson. The tackety tack sounds of Albrighton had always been characteristic of Nektar to me, as much as the sureal keyboards and wild light show. Not to worry! Nelson and Nektar delivered again. This album is not as thematically cohesive as the run that preceded, (notably Back to The Future and Recycled) By the way-I agree- no to NOHO! See Recycled reviews! Nelson and Nektar deliver superbly with "Listen" and "Spread Your Wings" among the most amazing cuts they ever delivered. I have to say that I was delighted not to miss Albrighton and this album remains on my most played list. This is especially true when I require an intense guitar KA session. Pink Floyd fans take note- Nektar is worth your time and investment. Larry Fast kicks in with another amazing guest appearace. I can almost taste what I really liked about the 70's again, and it sure wasn't disco Rock on with Nektar!
