Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars Guitars, drums, beat and energy. Simple formula = Great CD.......2006-03-24

This is a great cd that ages very well with enough diversity to keep the album fresh.
Seems like everybody likes "Calypso" and I don't blame them. I was actually surprised when I heard it in some Bruce Willis movie, but I don't think it is the stand out song of the album. I can't go past the raw energy of "Don't Kill Nipper" and "Horschack Army". "Chest Hair", "Goin' Off" and "Driving Up The Ceiling" also are winners.
I am a guitarist, but I play Flamenco. Spiderbait (this cd in particular) takes me back to the amp and the overdrive. They have a simple formula (drums, guitar and bass) but they they hit the notes at the right times with right balance of sound.
If you search for the lyrics of "Glokenpop" from their "Grand Slam" album, it will sum up Spiderbait for you. Simple and very effective.

4 out of 5 stars Catch That Spider and Put it in Your Collection!.......2003-09-03

This is a good fun album. Buy Me a Pony and Calypso you will know if you own a radio, but they're not the only good songs on here. Hot Water & Milk, Goosh and Joyce's Hut are also great, just to name a few. Interestingly half of the tracks on this album do not contain lyrics at all. This makes them excellent to have on as back ground music when you're doing something important and don't want to be distracted by words. They also would be good if you were making home videos or something to have on in the background. This is not a bad album,...

5 out of 5 stars never leaves my deck for more than 3 days........2001-01-18

i mean it. i never get bored of these guys. and if i do eject, i replace it with on of their other albums, Grand Slam for example. i can't say that i have ever heard anybody sound so sweet. i hope one day these will be recognized as classics.

4 out of 5 stars Lets Follow the Yellow Brick Road to Oz.......2000-12-30

ok Im a luky one. I have a job that takes me worldwide, but reside in Australia. So after saying that u may say that is where this review comes from but its not. After seeing these guys {well three & a woman} live on the Gold Coast, the next day I immediatly went out and bought this album, coz it is simply a classic, it totally blew my mind. This is where Australia is favoured in the Music Industry, they get both the American & European industries enforced onto us via the net, radio/televison, and advertising & we take note and excuse the ploy we "regurgitate{/or}" a new form of music, that unforunatly very few people of the rest of the world take notice, mainly tourists/exchange students, or relatives that live overseas find out. Music today is just being constantly being brought back from the dead, ie 60's psychedelic, 70's disco/funk or punk. DO YOURSELF A FAVOUR LISTEN TO SOME NEW STUFF! CHECK OUT THE AUSSIE INDUSTRY, U WONT BE DISPLEASED.

2 out of 5 stars Some absolute gems..........2000-08-29

First of all, let me say I'd prefer to rate this album 2.5 stars... i haven't boosted the rating to 3 because I happen to be one of those people who is sick of seeing every album rated 5 out of 5... let's face it, a 5-star rating should be reserved for the best albums and used sparingly... a 2.5 rating in my book is basically: 'pretty good, but could have been better...'

Don't get me wrong... I'm definitely a 'bait fan... but I bought this album on the strength of 'Calypso', 'Hot Water and Milk' and 'Buy Me A Pony'... and hoped that the rest of it would be just as good. Unfulfilled hopes, unfortunately...

The aforementioned three songs are absolutely brilliant... in fact, they are so good that it was worth buying the album... especially everyone's fave, 'Calypso'..

but the rest of the album is rather bland... 'Joyce's Hut' is alright, if a little repetitive... 'Goin' off' is quite funny... but these highlights are few and far between.
