Their formula is simple enough--equal parts teenage humor and brattiness combined with infectious guitar hooks that just beg to be cranked up on the stereo. But with Take Off Your Pants and Jacket, the guys in Blink 182 may have delivered their best album to date, a punk-pop fusion that's so consistent you'll wonder which of the 13 tracks will become radio hits (any has the chance, really). Yes, as with Dude Ranch and Enema of the State, the songs here revolve around falling in love ("The Rock Show," "First Date"), falling out of love ("Online Songs," "Happy Holidays, You Bastard"), and plenty of other ways to kill time while away from school ("Reckless Abandon"). And yes, these guitar-driven songs all pretty much sound the same, but Take Off never gets boring. There's too much nervous energy here, too many slight variations in the arrangements, and too many hilarious lyrics that you won't want to miss. Parents may remember that the Buzzcocks used this same shtick in the late '70s, older siblings may remember that Green Day did it well not so many years ago, but Blink fans know that their band is more clever than anyone else playing today. The bonus tracks are throwaways, but that's OK--the threesome have given us plenty to bop our heads to here. --Jason Verlinde

5 out of 5 stars One of their best.......2005-08-22

"Take Off" is definitely one of Blink's better albums. Every song has something cool about it. Here's my rating of all the songs:

1) Anthem Part Two - 10/10 I love the intro at the beginning, and I think it's just a good song. Great way to start the album.
2) Online Songs - 9/10 Not much to say here...
3) First Date - 10/10 Who hasn't heard this song? Despite the major overplay, it's still a good song. I listen to it every now and then.
4) Happy Holidays - Can't really rate this one, only like 42 seconds long.
5) Story of a Lonely Guy - 10/10 A typical Tom song about a girl. Awesome chorus.
6) The Rock Show - 7/10 Heard it too many times. I normally skip this one just because it started to get old after the first 50 times.
7) Stay Together for the Kids - 10/10 Practically the only serious song on the album, about divorce. I like how it starts quietly, then Blink turns up the volume all of the sudden.
8) Roller Coaster - 8/10 This song is OK, but not one of my favorites.
9) Reckless Abandon - 9/10 Pretty good, not much else to say...
10) Everytime I Look for You - 10/10 I've always liked this song, I don't know why.
11) Give Me One Good Reason - 10/10 Catchy, always worth a listen.
12) Shut Up - 9/10 You can't help but sing along to the chorus in this song( I know I can't)
13) Please Take Me Home - 10/10 An OK way to end the album.

Overall, this gets 9.5/10. You can tell Blink has matured a bit, but that doesn't prevent this from being a great cd. If you're interested in other Blink-182 albums, I recommend Cheshire Cat, Enema of the State, and their self titled cd. Buy it. Now.

4 out of 5 stars Blink 182 album.......2005-02-22

This is one of my favorite albums, but gets very similar due to the guitar doing the same stuff EVERY time. First Date, Reckless Abandon, and Please Take Me Home, are awesome because the drums, bass, and lead guitar are different every one of the songs. First Date especially is like they finally stoped being s*** heads and went back to the funny lyrics, but gr8 rocking.
The rest are good but it feels like they used it for filler. The worst song on there is The Rock Show. It sounds like it was made ONLY 4 MTV and was pulled out Liberatchi's A$$. NEVER,I repeat,NEVER download this song. Enema was funny and had gr8 songs. If Blink had put more time in to this one it could have been platinum. Recomended downloads:
Sum 41: Fat Lip, In too deep, pieces.
Green Day: minority, American Idiot album
Goldfinger:99 red balloons
see ya

4 out of 5 stars Where is [...].......2005-01-14

This is a great blink 182 album. I would say it is probobly their second best after Enema. That is because it was so consistant. I would probobly like their old stuff better if I listened to it more, however the drumming is too simple, and the sound (editing) quality is not great. Dig has a couple great songs, and some ones I get tired of. Here is my favorite list:

1. Anthem Part 2- Intro is fantastic, so well done. Song carries well, dont want to change in the middle.
2. Give me one good reason- I just started liking it, when I started getting away from the hits.
3. First Date- Ashamed, butthe best part is the beginning drumming. Also sounds good when I play this on piano.
4. Stay together for the kids- Alright, chorus doesn't thrill me. More serious, but I enjoy it.
5. Reckless Abandon- Good. Has the same exact form s roller coaster--repeating the first few lines as chorus--Ok.
I am not listing any further because I don't want to comment on the rest. I hate the Rock Show. Not interesting. Way too pop. Lonely Guy is better but I normally skip it now. Roller Coaster is boring. Shut Up makes me think of running out of ideas. Happy Holidays is fun--for the first few listens. I would like to hear their bonus tracks that were supposed to be on this album- but were not. [...] dog would be funny. I cant hear it on Punkrockers.com because it doesn't show up. Buy this album mainly for the first 3 songs-and maybe an occasional laugh with Happy Holidays. I reccomend Enema of the state for "Dumpweed" "Aliens Exist" "Dysentary Gary" and, if you havent heard them, the hits. The new BLINK 182 album is irritating and now i don't know why the [...] some of these hits are on tv. For example, "I Miss You" or "Always". I havent gotten too far down into the old BLINK 182, but I think Dig and Enema are probobly the easiest to listen to. "Dammit" and "Josie" you should buy on i-tunes. However, I should listen to more of their old stuff.
