Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars This Is Stansfield's Moment to Shine and She Works It!.......2006-03-17

The last production I bought by Lisa Stansfield was "Face Up" which I felt was a mixed bag of catchy funk and soul numbers with an equal amount of lackluster vocals and melodies. "Face Up" was mediocre compared to "Real Love" or her third album-I can't recall the title-it may have been simply "Lisa Stansfield." (also LOVED the remix cd with that awesome Hex Hector version of "I'm Leavin'")

On the Trevor Horn production of "The Moment," our sistah Lisa is back and better than ever!! No, the disco influences and funk may be missing a bit but the touching ballads and pop magic that exist in these 11 songs make up for lost time. Unlike other albums and singles that Horn has produced for artists like Seal, the ABC Band and Cher, (to name but a few)Stansfield's powerfully pure vocals get put up front where they belong, avoiding the "Horn-like" echo and oveamplified sound of his usual style.

STANDOUTS-
Treat Me Like a A Woman (cool and dramatic-Lisa works it!)
When Love Breaks Down (my second favorite song on the cd)
Say It to Me Now (power ballad with sincere drama and heart)
The Moment (another touching slow number)
If I Hadn't Got You (My favorite song on the cd)
Love Without a Name (true and honest as our all the songs here)
Takes a Woman to Know (if this isn't a funky song I don't know what is!)

Buy it-you won't be sorry you did!

4 out of 5 stars Trevor Horn + Lisa = STATE OF THE ART SOUL.......2006-02-18

WHY didn't this amazing album by Lisa get a US domestic CD release from Arista, the same American label that recently issued her greatest hits CD? Rather than re-hash, remix, and re-hash OLD material, why not "treat her like a woman" as Lisa croons and allow her to release some fine NEW material in the States?! Simple fact: She can't get played on US radio or MTV or VH1...too bad for us...as this is a great collection of songs, sung marvelously by our Lisa, especially solid songwriting from cohorts like RICHARD DARBYSHIRE (who also has a great voice American audiences have overlooked), including the should-have-been-smash IF I HADN'T GOT YOU - if you released this track with some remixes for the clubs or just the LP mix, this deserves to be a hit - one of the BEST songs Lisa has ever done - gives me goosebumps, what vocal phrasing! Lisa looks classic and sexy and very sophisticated on the sleeve, too. Hats off to TREVOR HORN and ZZT for giving Lisa another shot! Sure it's not early 90s club music, it's Lisa updated for...er...um...2004.

5 out of 5 stars Beautiful and Soulful.......2005-08-07

I was surprised and excited when I saw on here a post for a new album by the one and only Ms. Stansfield, and I was not disappointed, she really flows beautifully on this cd, while it is different from her earlier work, she still has the voice to pull it off, and I like that she isn't afraid to try different things, and I wish they would release this cd domestically as well. Some of the tracks that stood out the most are:

Say It To Me Now
Easier
Treat Me Like A Woman
The Moment

I look forward to her next project, may she keep reinventing, I will never get bored.

4 out of 5 stars Good..........2005-05-14

But not as good as her previous work - if you are expecting her trademark R&B sound. It's not on this album. Nothing wrong with that, but I really wish she would have put a bit more "funk" in the album. We all have different tastes, and straight up pop bores me - unfortuantely much of this CD bores me.

Having said that, Lisa's voice is incredibly good and as beautiful as ever. The songs are professionally crafted pop. The whole thing is well done. It's just the song/style selection that leaves me a bit disappointed. But hey, it's still better than pretty much any new music on the radio right now. Lisa is a stellar talent, even singing weak pop material.

It's really best if you go into this album pretending that you've never heard any of Lisa's prior CD's. If you think of it like that, it's really a very good effort.
