Customer Reviews:

1 out of 5 stars This is a joke, right?.......2005-07-22

Not knowing that Kari had done anything since Remote Control, I borrowed her album from a friend and had a listen. It was awful. She's clearly tone deaf, and her lyrics are sophomoric. I see several good reviews here, so either some people actually think she's a good singer, or they think she's so hot that they'd listen to her belch the alphabet. The only thing I can think is that she made this album as a joke, or she lost a bet.

5 out of 5 stars Shiny - if you like Benatar..........2002-11-10

If I had to discribe "Shiny" I said it's the writing style of Alanis Morissette with the rock n' roll performance of Pat Benatar. Rock and Roll and Pop. The album was mixed by a genius. Bealtes/George Martin Sgt. Pepper like quality to it. Dynamic and good sound stage, a rarity in todays releases. It's in HDCD there's a difference. Not tone deaf like half of A.M. Jagged Little Pill or DMB Everday.
Pyschodelic tape loops, reverse organ and drums in the background. Properly executed backing vocals and dead on timing.

"Better Off" the last song piano/vocal. Elton John and Shina Twain sort of sound. But a again with tragic lyric style of Alanis. Proof that she can sing. None of that 95% reverb and Eventide that Brittney needs. Real voice. "Come And Get It" McCartney cover given to Badfinger, she does it justice, no blasphemy here.

4 out of 5 stars charmed.......2001-09-17

Kari is one of those talented artists whose abilities extend in so many ways, you are able to get a fuller sense of who she really might be. Hearing her music was first off, a charming inspiration, since I developed a little crush on her after watching "Kate's Addiction", her lesbian film. But by no means does she depend on her acting to be a music star. Her voice is so sweet and relaxed, comparable, I suppose, to The Cardigans. Knowing also that few people have listened to this, makes this collection feel all the more special, although I think this is just the beginning, and that she will soon surprise us with an even fuller taste of the music from her heart.

4 out of 5 stars Pleasantly Surprised.......2001-08-10

I knew Kari Wuhrer from her television work and just happened to stumble across this album online one day. On a lark, I decided to buy it, even though some of the outcomes of actors attempting to sing are not always the best (not naming names). I have to admit, I was pretty impressed with Kari, she writes or co-writes most of her own material on this album and has pretty good vocal ability to boot. The lyrics are intriguing and she puts a pretty interesting spin on them. I would definitely recommend this album to anyone who likes the likes of Fiona Apple, Alanis Morissette, or Tori Amos. These are the other artists Kari resembles musically, in my opinion.
