5 out of 5 stars Rockin'.......2006-02-12

Great album period. Until a week ago or so I wasn't even really familiar with Colplay until a friend of mine mentioned that he wanted a new Colplay album X&Y. I started doing little research of my own and found their sound to be intriguing. It all pretty much started from me playing Speed of Sound over and over, then I started liking songs from their previous albums and once I really got into the new album, that's pretty much all I wanna have in my boombox. It takes a while to get into the whole Colplay style but once you do, you're forever caught up. If not the lyrics, then you should get the album just for its amazing instrumental arrangements. It's a compilation you can just put on and not skip any tracks and few albums these days are like that. It's an experience that's almost indescribable. If you like the whole U2 sound or you love instrumental and/or melodic music, you will love this CD.

5 out of 5 stars amazing.......2005-07-23

I liked the previous two coldplay albums; and as emotionally charged as they were - i found them a little too sad at times. X & Y is a whole new direction for the band. It's new age; modern and most certainly the best album i've bought this year. I found every second song to be upbeat, faster and more energy charged; with every song in between like a come down or break. I really have nothing more to say than this is truly an amazing album; i have no favourite song as i love virtually all of them. Tracks 1, 3, 5, 7, 9 i found to be particularly fantastic. This album suits all occasions and can be listened to in car, home or ipod. Buy this album today if you liked their old stuff but wanted something abit more modern and upbeat.

Cheers

3 out of 5 stars The Musical Let Down.......2005-06-12

With a new Radiohead album mounths away, I thought the new Coldplay ablum X and Y was sure to keep me well through the summer, However I was very wrong. Before I go on I want to say I do love Coldplay and have been a fan since there start, I highly recomend both Parachutes, A Rush of blood to the head, and their b-sides, but I found that their new album was I huge let down. Before I tell you the bad about the album it does have some good. The music has really started to sound alot more modern, and up to date, most compare it's sound to that to Kid A, but I really wouldn't go that far. Now for the bad the two main flaws with this album are though the music improved Chris really neglected the lyric writing, where is the touching emotionally charged lyrics that make me weep durring the scientist? Come on "You and me are on a tidal wave, We're in outer space." those are very dry. Secondly Coldplay borrows from to many other people it's cool to have influences but if you rely on them to deeply you lose your own voice and sound. I mean have you people seen Chris Martin I love him to death, but he look like he wants to become Thom Yorke frontman of Radiohead. Sorry about all the Radiohead jargin, but in the end this album is only for hardcore fans, so if your a new listener pick up Parachutes, or A Rush of Blood to the head.

4 out of 5 stars BEATLES MEETS BOWIE MEETS NEW ORDER.......2005-06-08

THIS ALBUM IS DESTINED TO BECOME A CLASSIC BY ALL STANDARDS. I SHOULD IN RETROSPECT HAVE GIVEN IT 5 STARS BUT 5 STAR ALBUMS ONLY HAPPEN ONCE IN A LONG WHILE. THESE BOYS DESERVE MORE ACCOLADES THAN THEY RECEIVE. CHRIS MARTIN'S ABILITY TO WRITE SONGS IS ALMOST SUPERNATURAL. THERE ARE MANY INFLUENCES ON THIS ALBUM MOST NOTABLY BOWIE'S HEROES ERA, AND ABBEY ROAD GUITAR RIFFS, AND ALSO A BEATY LITTLE NUMBER THAT REMINDS ONE OF
NEW ORDER. I LOVED IT. AND SO WILL YOU
PEACE TO ALL
JOHN

5 out of 5 stars Should Be Greatness.......2005-04-23

Album Description
Coldplay's massively anticipated new album, X&Y, is the follow-up to 2002's 16-million selling A Rush of Blood To The Head and includes the single "Speed of Sound". X&Y was recorded at studios in the UK and has been produced by Danton Supple (Morrissey, Elbow), Ken Nelson (Badly Drawn Boy, Kings of Convenience) and the band themselves.
Tracks include:

"Square One":Probable single. Built around a subtle electronic drum beat reminiscent of Brian Eno or Berlin-period Bowie, the song builds into a huge chorus featuring massive guitars and organ. Like Radiohead's "Paranoid Android", it sounds like their most ambitious and possibly best song yet.

"What If":Starting with a simple piano, a fragile-sounding Chris sings, "What if you decide/You don't want me there by your side... in your life". This album's "The Scientist".

"Talk":A possible B-side to the first single, "Talk" takes the riff from electronic music legends Kraftwerk's "Computer Love" and builds a completely new song. It keeps the mechanical beat of the original but adds a huge guitar and dancefloor filling bass-line. Stadiums won't be big enough to contain it.

"'Til Kingdom Come":This was written for Johnny Cash, but he died before he could record it. Coldplay's version is a sweet Dylan-esque folk song on acoustic guitar. "For you I'd wait til kingdom come/Until my days, my days are done." Chris vows.

"X&Y":The dreamy, synth-heavy song features the chorus, "You and me are floating on a tidal wave together/You and me are drifting into outer space." Beatles-style strings suddenly appear towards the end, and the anthemic singalong "woo-hoo-hoo" outro is set to become the sound of the summer festivals.

"The Hardest Part":A classic Coldplay love song about loss and heartbreak, in which Chris sings, "The hardest part was letting go, not taking part."
