5 out of 5 stars Many happy memories..........2006-11-27

I have to be careful what I say here, but friends of mine who may be reading this will understand. I spent two incredible years of my life "in front of the fireplace", and this album was a key element in the drowsy bliss I experienced during that time. I *highly recommend* it for anyone who has time and money to kill and a willing sex partner by their side. -->S.

5 out of 5 stars pure energy & intelligience.......2005-02-19

if you aren't antsy in your seat over the idea of lori carson & bootsy collins playing on the golden palomino's album, then perhaps you're still in shock. it's hard to believe that over ten years have elapsed but pure still sounds every bit as good as it did when we first heard it. believe me, the palominos may not have been my favorite group but i have the utmost respect for them as far as creativity goes & this album shows us just how focused & energetic they truly are. what's even better, this album probably appeals to many different lovers of music as there is something here for everyone. from those innocent & sweet vocals of lori carson on "little suicides", we know already that the music industry has overlooked something special & ultimately unique in the line of contemporary folk. but wait, it's the second track that might hook you in when lori's voice becomes soft & sensual as a whisper on "heaven". yes, i can see or even understand how this might put someone in the mood so to speak even though the song's lyrics are anything but erotic. for those intellectuals who like a little electricity or funk with their poetry, you wouldn't want to skip over "no skin". really, there are no tracks here to miss & you'll surely play this cd time and time again. snatch this cd up before it goes out of print or becomes increasingly harder to find. you'll be glad you did.

5 out of 5 stars Beautiful, sexy, haunting, ambient, awesome..........2004-03-14

This is really a terrific album, particularly if you have a member of the opposite sex listening to it with you. It's sensual, deep, funky, rhythmic, and very mood-inducing. Forget jazz, if you need to get laid, this is the album for you. Massive Attack's Mezzanine is good for that too, but it still can't hold a candle to Pure.

It's good for listening to by yourself, too. You can light some candles, lay back, chill out, and just lose yourself in the music. The music is so beautiful, you can just drift away with a smile on your face. If you need to get laid, or just like music at all, do yourself a favor and buy this album.

5 out of 5 stars Haunting, sensuous music........2002-07-27

This is among my very favorite albums. The vocals are exquisite, delicate delivery of provocative and even brutal lines and the music ranges froms etherial to driving bass and drums. Heavily inspired by Batille's writings from the earlier part of this century (worth reading, though they are very disturbing at points).

Most interesting to me is the play between the album's intellectual content: the lyrics and their delivery combined with the music. As I said, and as the other reviewers seem to agree, this is a beautiful album. But it is dark. The songs tend to be about the convoluted ways in which through love and especially desire, we abuse ourselves and others and even learn to crave abuse, if the abuse signifies our desireability or even just recognition. It is an album of energy and lust born of exhaustion and despair.
