Album Details

Martyn Ware and Ian Craig Marsh Left the Original Lineup of the Human League after Having Differences with Phil Oakey. They Recruited Glenn Gregory (Who's Vocal's were Remarkably Similar to Oakey's) and Heaven 17 was Born. Their First Single Together, "we Don't Need this Fascist Groove Thing", was an Immediate Hit, a Political Call to Arms Against the Rise of Conservatives Both in the UK and Us. They Continued Forth with "i'm Your Money", "at the Height of the Fighting" and "Penthouse and Pavement" and their Career was off to a Swift Start. It Went Into Hyperspace with the Megahit "Let Me Go", which Hit Big on Both Sides of the Atlantic. This Collection Gathers all their Hits from their Enitire Career Run on a Single Convenient Disc.

Customer Reviews:

2 out of 5 stars Mediocre compilation.......2007-01-16

I was very disappointed to find that the version of Penthouse and Pavement on this collection is the 4:04 edited single version with a horrible edit of the intro. The original version is something like 6:00, so there's nearly two minutes missing from the song. Otherwise, most of the must-have Heaven 17 songs are here, but all the shortest versions.

4 out of 5 stars #4 song "Play to Win" not "Play Town" as it is on site........2003-01-04

RE The Best of Heaven 17;
Typo on #4...should be "Play to Win" not "Play Town" as it is on site.

3 out of 5 stars Not bad , but stick to the original recordings.......2000-08-06

The problem with "Best Of" albums is that they just dont "Fit neatly" in the minds of people who grew up with the music on them.If your not familiar with any of the B.E.F. stuff,save your money and start at the begining with "Penthouse and Pavement".But remember this music is post punk Thatcherite U.K. and it might not be for you.Maybe you just had to be there Andre.Cheers,Sandy.

4 out of 5 stars I BEG TO DIFFER!.......2000-07-23

This might not be the best compilation, but anyone who hasn't heard (/of) these guys must have slept through the 80s! Who could forget the timeless "Let Me Go", the groovy "Play to Win", the happenin' "Penthouse & Pavement", the funky "Fascist Groove Thang", the furious "Temptation", & "Crushed by the Wheels...", and on and on... All of these guys, before and after the branching off of Human League, DEFINED British Electronic Pop!
