Album Description

Founded by Mike Rutherford, bassist/guitarist for rock/pop supergroup Genesis-in the mid-1980s when Phil Collins was pursuing his own solo efforts, Mike + The Mechanics carved out their own legacy of chart-scaling singles. Rhino's new release puts a baker's dozen of their best songs on one hit-packed disc, featuring vocals by both Paul Young (ex-sad Cafe) and Paul Carrack of previous Squeeze and solo frame.

Customer Reviews:

2 out of 5 stars Good compilation but misses 1985 "All I Need is A Miracle".......2007-04-20

All the best BUT this album does not feature what is probably Mike +T Mechs greatest song.
It has a corny, overly produced, overly-reworked version of All I Need Is A Miracle.
Ok, maybe they had to re-record the song because of label disputes or something, but why make it worse and not better?
Avoid it if you want the original 1985 track!!!!!!

5 out of 5 stars Great hits album.......2007-03-16

I am not really a big Mike and Mechanics fan, but I just fell in love with their music and this album when my mom used to play in the car when I was living in London, England. Every song on this album is good and has a great message that everybody can relate to. This is a great album for a casual fan, but I do not know if die hard Mike and Mechanic fans will actually love it. I still listen to this album today. In fact I have it on my Zune MP3 player. The messages in these songs still relate even in today's culture.

5 out of 5 stars Old parts.......2006-05-16

Yes, this is the long-awaited US release of the 1996 compilation that was released everywhere else by Virgin. It was FEMAed because at the time, sales declined here, and Atlantic Records dropped their US/Canada contract. I had to get the import, but that's okay. Rhino didn't want people buying another country's version, basically. Most of the packaging is pretty much the same. At the same time, they also released "Rewired" Stateside. Even with imports and legal downloads, some fans are not always aware.
These kinds of albums usually feature a new track, so "All I Need is a Miracle" was re-recorded. In Scandinavia, after Paul Young's death, EMI released "Favourites" as a tribute with the rare exclusive Paul Carrack-led track "You Never Change".
Mike & the Mechanics are, of course, the third most successful solo venture in the Genesis family, behind Phil Collins and Peter Gabriel, with Steve Hackett fourth, and Tony Banks the farthest at the Firth of Fifth, and Anthony Phillips even further down the charts.

5 out of 5 stars The Best album they have put out.......2006-02-02

One person in this reveiw section said they thought that this album was garbage because it didnt have the orginal version of "ALl I Need Is A Miracle", but i have to disagree. I do have to admit that i thought the same thing at first..but i bought it anyway...and let me tell you the new version is better than the orginal. More energy, More feeling in the song, i especially liked the guitar solo instead of the keyboard solo, but in all it gave me chills bigger than the orginal did when i heard it the first time.

As for the rest of the compilation it was very good for me, I got into almost every melody except for a few...but the ones i did gave me chills.

I highly reccomend this compilation!
