3 out of 5 stars Are we the last ones left alive?.......2007-04-29

Most Rush folks will say the biggest change in their music was from Moving Pictures to Signals. Musically that might be true but in terms of sheer quality I'd have to say it was from Signals to G/P. For the first time I found myself skipping multiple songs from a Rush album. While I give the album 3 stars which I consider 'good' (if I could give it 2.5 I would), it lacks the power that all albums up to this point possess. The first side is fairly solid with 'Red Sector A' being my favorite by far. Fantastic rhythm and eerie lyrics tell the story many have heard before about Geddy's mom being a holocaust survivor.

The second half of the record is weak. I don't like the rhythm of 'Body Electric' or 'Red Lenses' at all and the off-beat verses of 'Wheels' clash with a catchy sounding chorus. Neil was clearly trying a lot of new things on this record. Some of it worked well and others didn't at all.

2 out of 5 stars Their fall from grace.......2007-04-21

This is the album that started the downside of the tremendous peak they had built up to starting with 2112 and culminating with Moving Pictures. Signals was a great album, but indicated a desire to change direction musically to fit with the times. It showed them in a stylistic holding pattern, not having yet fully committed to the paradiem shift. This album then, shows that change fully taking place. They felt a strong need to adapt to the current styles at the time and this album was the result. While not a bad album, it truly deliniates the end of a golden age for this band. One to which, sadly, they would never return, but not due to a lack of trying. Their A game had been spent. It's not anything that doesn't happen to almost every great band with staying power, they all get there at some point, some sooner than others, and Rush had a truly great and prolific run when they were at their strongest. One that has very rarely ever been paralleled either before or since. This album however is not one of their best, sounds dated today, and not a good place to start for people looking to discover the music of this band.

3 out of 5 stars Some very good, some just good and some ordinary songs.......2007-04-14

Here's my choice of very good songs, "Distant early warning", "Red Sector A", "The ennemy within" and ""The body electric".
The good songs would be "Red lens" and "Betweeen the wheels"
The ordinary songs are "Afterimage" and "Kid gloves"
i give it a three stars, which is reflecting a good album for me, but not a great one.

5 out of 5 stars Long time to get used to... now it's my favorite Rush album!.......2007-03-30

It took me a long time to like this album. Now I can't get enough of it. For some reason, P/G just hits all the right things I'm looking for in a Rush album. I just can't put my finger on why. I've been calling it my favorite Rush album for years and years now so it has withstood the test of time!

Some of my favorites of the 8 tracks is "Between the Wheels," combining smart lyrics and great rhythm. "Red Sector A" is a concert staple that I also love. Also, my favorite Rush song is on this album. You'll likely laugh but it is "Red Lenses." The music in this song is just fantastic. It is the pinnacle of Rush's "synthesizer" age, yet still with some great guitar riffs.

5 out of 5 stars Another phase shift...another great album.......2007-02-19

If you're a die-hard Rush fan then you won't need to read this, but in contrast to William's remarks, my sentiment is that if you're a true fan, you roll with the changes and recognize the album for it's greatness.

Any true Rush fan knows that the band's signature motif is to change with the times...what started as Led Zeppelinesque evolved to prog evolved to incorporate new wave (ala Police), so on and so on. Rush as a band has never been afraid to borrow from current music trends and create something distinctly Rush from it. Grace Under Pressure is no different.

It's hard to ignore the Police-influenced pop-reggae sound that was strong during the early 80's in such songs as Enemy Within, but as always, Rush crafted an album of fantastic material that is uniquely Rush.
