Customer Reviews:
Another really good CD.......2006-07-13
I think Sheryl now has enough classic music to put her in the category as one of the best. This one is no exception. I would recommend this to any fan.
I think it's funny when reviewers get into the stars' personal lives. I read one review where they were 'sad Lance and her broke up'. Does that make the music sound different??? I guess I don't get it. Maybe Sheryl is too good for Lance. Hmmmm... maybe I'm gonna start my own gossip column... maybe not.
I will say I'm sure I'll buy Sheryl's next CD.
Wildflower.......2006-05-30
Sheryl Crow has consistently proven herself a talented musician and song writer. This is a good cd with great sound. Since I picked up Wildflower when it came out in 2005, there are now two additional editions.
The deluxe edition includes a bonus DVD with seven acoustic tracks: Where Has All the Love Gone, Letter to God, I Know Why, Perfect Lie, Lifetimes, Good Is Good, and Always on Your Side. It also has the video for "Good Is Good."
The bonus tracks edition adds an Always On Your Side remix as a bonus track. The standard cut of Always On Your Side is included as with the original edition as well.
It'll be hard to pick a favorite, but you still will really like each and every song.
Sheryl, I love ya, but..........2006-04-28
I have been a Sheryl Crow fan ever since she used to background for Michael Jackson. When she secured a career of her own, she dropped plenty of classic or near-classic albums like Tuesday Night Music Club, C'mon C'mon and her self-titled album. Aside from The Globe Sessions, which got mixed reviews, I never had to think twice about giving one of her albums a high rating. But her latest, Wildflower, didn't turn out to be as fresh as I'd hoped.
The lead single "Good Is Good" is good is good -- WHAT'D I say? Anyway, aside from that song and possibly "I Know Why", the lyrical quality makes you wonder if Sheryl ran out of ideas. As other reviewers have mentioned, most of the songs are mellow, and in the words of a hit off her first album, they ain't strong enough. Songs like "Lifetimes" and "Chances Are" really don't go anywhere, and "Perfect Lie" could stand a rewrite or two. "I Don't Wanna Know" also has her hitting some odd notes during the chorus.
Surprisingly, the fast songs aren't that great either: "Live It Up" kind of comes off as the kind of song you'd hear from a pop star that was trying to cross over into contemporary rock. Basically, I'm still a devoted Sheryl Crow fan, but I advise everyone to only buy Wildflower for the same reason I bought it: to complete your Sheryl Crow collection.

Nothing but praise.......2006-04-27
This album is excellent. Every track here is strong and very well-produced.
My favorites are:
Good is Good
Lifetimes
I Know Why
Chances Are
Typical of every new album that is out there, you never know what to expect. But as soon as I heard 'Good is Good' and 'I Know Why', I was entranced. These two songs are great indicators of the type of sound that you'll hear on Wildflower.
Another of my favorite songs is 'Lifetimes'. the lyrics in this song are extremely meaningful, and I LOVE the wurlitzer in the song! This song is pretty different from what Sheryl normally does.
'Chances Are' is another great song. Sheryl's voice sounds beautiful in this song, matched with the beautiful atmospheric synths as well as the Asian sounding drums (tablas?).
The most uptempo moment in this album is 'Live It Up', which is preceded by 'Letter to God'. 'Letter to God' is a song that speaks of challenge, that speaks of not understanding how this world goes and all. Hence it comes as an extremely delightful surprise to the listener when suddenly 'Live it Up' comes on.
I would say the most poetic moment is when Sheryl sings 'I Don't Wanna Know', when she sings about - duh - nature's poetry. =) Beautiful lyrics.
Sheryl's voice has never sounded better. Just because it doesn't have the same grit and edginess of her previous efforts, doesn't mean it's a bad album. Wildflower is a love-laced affair, in a grandiose style that Sheryl pulls off wonderfully.
With the Deluxe edition, you don't only get videos, you also get a bonus track - the acoustic version of the title track (Wildflower). Honestly I think this is better than the album version, though I can't tell why. I guess the strings sound a little like extras in this songs, though they do complement the song.
The videos are good too. The performances (all acoustic) are slick and are very professionally shot. John Shanks, one of my favorite producers, who also produced Wildflower, makes a guest appearance on some of the songs.
You can't say no.
