Ice City - Welcome to the Hood .......2006-08-30
Ice City's debut album was "Welcome to the Hood" (2004). The Philadelphia group consists of Rocafella's Freeway & Face Money, Bars, and Hydro. This is one of those solid albums that received zero attention and marketing when it dropped. On the self-titled intro track the group introduces itself while Shena Grier sings the hook. The album's biggest collaboration has Freeway, Ice City and Joe Budden teaming up for the thugged out "Ride Up". My favourite track on this album is "They Ain't Ride'n", Ice City delivers a thugged out cruising anthem, dropping on point rhymes backed by some deadly production. Backed by a bouncy frenetic beat, Freeway and the rest of Ice City "Lock It Down". Ice City then slows things repping themselves and reflecting on the daily hustles they go through with "Grindin Stuff". Backed by some more impressive production Ice City provides a smooth cut with "Money Makes The World Go Round". After two average cut's, Ice City provides another memorable track with "The Hood Is Crazy". Ice City then drop a track about love and relationships while Shena Grier delivers a decent hook on "Want You Back". Ice City, Freeway and Oschino rep their hood with pride on "Philly ******" then close off the album with "Da Boyz". Ice City provides a stellar album worth checking out with "Welcome to the Hood".
Ice City - Welcome to the Hood.......2005-03-14
After releasing his first album, "Philadelphia Freeway" in 2003, Freeway didn't waste any time recording his group's debut album, "Welcome to the Hood." It was released in August 2004.
1. Welcome to the Hood (Featuring Shena Grier) - Nice beat, everyone comes good, Shena does a nice hook even though it repeats throughout the verses and gets annoying - 4/5

3. Ride Up (Featuring Freeway & Joe Budden) - Nice beat, everyone comes pretty good, Free's hook isn't bad - 4/5
4. They Ain't Ride'n - Good beat, everyone comes good but the last guys voice sucks, hook is good - 4.5/5

10. 1000 Bars - Good beat, everyone comes nice, no hook - 4/5

Ice City really suprised me with this album. I didn't know what to expect from them but after listening to this cd a couple times, they really do have lots of potential. There is very few skipable tracks and the rest of them are pretty good. Only check this out if you like Freeway and can stand his voice...I think he's a great rapper from the ROC!
