Call EPMD old, but call them consistent. EPMD's Out of Business is rather like their previous effort, Back in Business</I>--agreeable, accessible, but deathly unexciting. EPMD can always be depended upon to put out albums with a string of cool club hits and mild filler--they invented that formula on both Back and Out. But at this point in their career, EPMD's work feels weighted down by their molasses pacing and rhyme-by-numbers lyrics (basically, the same styled verbals EPMD's been kicking for over a decade now). They find brief moments of fire on tracks like "You Got Shot" (blazing with its hook taken from Ol' Dirty Bastard) and "Jane 6," which thumps with surprising force thanks to its reworked "Tramp" sample. Nevertheless, even "Symphony 2000," with cameos from M.O.P., Redman, and Method Man feels flat, indicative of Out of Business as a whole. They might still be old-school masters, clocking millennium ducats, but long-time fans may not feel paid in full. --Oliver Wang

4 out of 5 stars More of the same from surviviors in the rap game!.......2001-10-22

I've followed EPMD from their debut album and have never been dissapointed. This is more of that same formula that has made them legends in the field of hip-hop.

1 out of 5 stars Wack Trash.......2001-07-16

EPMD is a legendary group and have dropped consistent albums and a couple of classics for over a decade...It has 2 DECENT songs in Pioneer and Right Now. and 2 GOOD songs in both versions of Symphony. The rest is pure filler. the only other song that is listenable is THe Fan. Even the usually good Jane song is wack. They retired as a group on a bad note. And if this was gonna be what they were going to put out from then on then it was the GREATEST choice to retire in Hip Hop history with the exception of Mase. If you have to have every EPMD album then dont make the mistake I did and buy this album without the Greatest Hits Cd.( How dumb was that). At least buy the one with the greatest hit cd included, that way it wont be a complete waste of money.

5 out of 5 stars Mallenium Duck-etts, Baby! Yeah, Boy-ee!.......2000-02-05

This is da bomb. The Intro is da best wit the theme from Rocky, gets ya thumpin' and a bumpin'. Never heard raps this good, ya know what I'm saying, shorty. Eric and Parish Mallenium Duck-etts, Baby!
