Busta Rhymes opens his second album with a ridiculous monologue predicting global destruction before the year 2000. The only thing in danger of vaporizing over the next two years is Rhymes's career. Listening to Busta's gruff voice for well over an hour is an endurance test of the highest order, especially after MTV and radio have relentlessly subjected listeners to his "Woo-haa!" battle cry. Thankfully, Busta makes his pipes contort in every way possible on When Disaster Strikes... From mellow to wild, over an eclectic mix of samples that range from Seals & Croft to KC & the Sunshine Band to Henri Mancini. Sean "Puffy" Combs produces a track called "The Body Rock" that sounds like an old-school Tribe Called Quest cut, while Erykah Badu helps Busta forget the rampant sexism and violence for a minute as the unlikely duo gets spiritual on "One." Disaster avoided...for now. --Aidin Vaziri

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars More classic Busta Rhymes coming at ya.......2007-02-14

Busta Rhymes was on a roll. His first album The Coming, was a hip hop classic in its own right and he keeps it moving with his second effort. This album is more of the schizophrenic Busta Rhymes I remember and not the stranger Im seeing now. Songs like THE WHOLE WORLD LOOKIN AT ME, SURVIVAL HUNGRY, TURN IT UP, PUT YOUR HANDS WHERE MY EYES COULD SEE(Crazy song, even crazier video), RHYMES GALORE, THERE'S NOT A PROBLEM MY SQUAD CANT FIX, WE COULD TAKE IT OUTSIDE, ONE(one of Busta's best duets with Erykah Badu). DANGEROUS(another hot single with a weird but tight video) and GET OFF MY BLOCK keep this album in constant rotation. Filler: Get High Tonight is the worst weed record since.........Ludacris's Blueberry Yum Yum! The Body Rock also sucks plus why oh why would you make a track with Puffy and Mase(hip hop's Pinky and The Brain)? WHY?. Bottom Line: Busta's second album When Disaster Strikes proves that Busta is no flash in the pan. Hot production, super lyrics from Busta Rhymes and company are all the recipes for success on this album.

4 out of 5 stars Good CD.......2007-01-12

4 out of 5 stars Original.......2006-10-01

FOUR AND A HALF stars. Busta is a great mc let alone a great entertainer. he leaves you singing along with the songs ie."put your hands where my eyes can see" which is very hard to do with me. when i first heard that song i went crazy and had to get this album. I still listen to is since the time i bought it.

4 out of 5 stars Busta Rhymes - When Disaster Strikes.......2006-03-16

A really really good Busta Rhymes album. Im givin it about 4.5/5 since it falls barely below 5. A lot of the tracks on here got really good production. The types of beats that Busta can rip on any day. Lyrically, Busta Rhymes does a straight job. Some songs on here are decent, but skippable also. Alot of the tracks are worth the whole listen. But dont get me wrong, you should definately go pick this album up. Its really good. Busta always gots those uptempo beats and voice. If you like any other Busta music, youll definately like this album, without a doubt. Go check it out!!!

My Top 5 Songs
1.The Whole World Lookin At Me
2.Survival Hungry
3.Rhymes Galore
4.Dangerous
5.Get Off My Block

Good album!

4 out of 5 stars GREAT!.......2005-12-24

Busta Rhymes follows his breakthrough album The Coming with an equally extravagant effort called when disaster strikes. This album does two things. One: it shows busta growing talent for creating exciting and wild new music. And two: it breaks absolutely no new barriers. There has never been a better example of a follow up album that was so blatantly familiar to its predecessor. In fact this album acts as a continuation of The Coming. The same qualities that made the first album so flamboyant and fresh are the same qualities that make this album so blah. Not that this album isn't packed with wild sounds, and tight rhyming with busta's freaked out style, its got tons of busta flavoring. So what exactly does busta offer up in this album that he didn't in The Coming? Well this effort shows many more signs of busta's street beats, and less of the spacey Nintendo sound effects. However this difference is slight, and hard to really notice.

This however was the only real slightly striking difference I could find. I had to put the other CD in and prove to myself, because the similarities were uncanny. Busta mixes around a little with the beats in this album and creates a more solid east coast feel. The spacey sounds are still here but not in every single track. The new supposedly hardcore beats are not very strong, as they are much simplified, and bass oriented. None of the new beats really standout as slammin beats with exception of the albums mega hit "Put your hands where my eyes can see". This track is no doubt his best song and maybe his best ever. It's quite a quality song. And while it lacks any real story or message, it is filled with splendid rhyme after rhyme, backed with the albums hottest beat.

Besides the hit "Put Your Hands Where My Eyes Can See" and the track "Dangerous" there are no other hit songs. This is unlike the previous album, which had three or four hit songs. The rest of the album acts as filler, although it serves this purpose quite nicely. As far as filler goes its pretty good and you can definitely get down to anyone of the tracks in this CD. This is something that it shares with The Coming.

As usual Busta is marvelous with his delivery, he shows fantastic talent for rapping. Again however he also shows his talent for meaningless lyrics. This CD is no exception. All the tracks are filled to the brim with crafty yet worthless rhymes.

And just like The Coming he fails to even come with even one single song that has any substantial message. Instead the tracks sound like incoherent babbling. This is Busta style however and he doesn't change a single thing when it comes to this. So I can except this to a point. Just like the coming this album has all the busta high and low points and is a quality sophomore album, even though it gets less and less tolerable. The beats are not as weird as in the coming but busta's rapping is better than ever. And this album has a true classic on it as well. Unfortunately it falls just short of The Coming because of its lack of originality.
