5 out of 5 stars Slick Lowrider Funk From Steffon For The 9 Fo.......2007-05-09

Killa Kali's Steffon definitely came out with a unique album in 1994, Trippin' Wit No Luggage on Ruthless Records. This album is hardly ever spoken of, and I just heard of it in 2006, and I am a serious west coast hip hop head!! I definitely had to cop this one. Rhythm D produces the beats on this album and for the most part slap hard with that West Coastin' G-Funk. But don't think that the beats are just your typical P-Funk samples; they take on a life of their own. Rhythm D laces some unique beats. Peep the beat on "Jack Of All Trades" which is odd but lovable! The beat on "P Hop Hour" is unlike any other G-Funk beat I ever heard, very electronic; I cannot even describe it. Rhythm D does lace up one of his mob style beats on "I Can't Stand It." Some more dope G-Funk beats like "Young And Trippin'" and "Uncut Funk" have some hot high pitched whiny synths. Lyricwise, Steffon has a decent flow over the beats with a cool monotone voice which complements the music. He discusses issues like a brotha trying to fit in with the white folks and how he takes abuse from his brotha folks in "Frost Bit" with an airy funky beat. Many songs are lighter and good for house party like "Funk Like Me" and "Uncut Funk" and the interesting but oddly outta place old school Miami Booty Bass inflected "Steffon's In The House." Steff gets his throwback on in "Remember The Dayz" and drops some street knowledge and also spits some game for the youth about respect and education. Overall a hella dope album, different, so it may need to grow a little on you. But when it does, you'll see it as a definite banger!

5 out of 5 stars Yo, my loc Steffon can't stand it!.......2006-01-28

Steffon did only this joint for Ruthless back in 93'. It was produced by Rhythm D and executive produced by Eazy-E. Cool production work by Rhythm. The album works because it is indicative of the early 90's G-Funk sound, which was very popular. Rhythm defintely was influenced by Dr. Dre and Cold 187um, who is the originator of the G-Funk sound. No guest appearances on this album. Its all Steffon on this dope joint, he has a laid back flow that works well with the production work. His topics include smoking sweat evergreen cavi, loose women, and selling out. The single off the album was "Frostbit" and its a story about a black kid named Ronnie who sells out and tries to be white. Ronnie gets dissed by the white, then dissed by the black, and so he is Frostbit, Uncut Funk is an awsome funky hit by Steffon, Steffon gets his mack on song Young & Trippin' which is a chronic blowin' hit with a tight G-funk, and my favorite I Can't Stand It, which is just plane sick & ill, and probably the best joint on Steffon's album. The album could have been stronger with some appearances from other Ruthless signees of the time, such as MC Ren, Above The Law, Dirty Red, Dre'sta or even the main man himself, Eazy-E. The album was never marketed after its release and so suffered and went unnoticed into the oblivion. However, if you can find a copy, its got some great music. Much luv to Steffon's homies Frost, Pistol, B.G. Knocc Out & Dre'sta, Dirty Red, Above The Law, Brownside, ALT, Mr. Shadow, Blood Of Abraham, Rhythm D & Eazy-E.

5 out of 5 stars Steffon is real.......2005-01-09

THis album take you back to the old school gangsta Rap. Tracks as Frost Bit and uncut funk will take you back to the old days. Steffon Trippin` wit no luggage is a real good album with some good funky tracks. Eazy-e did the production and Rhythm D the instumental and that will say enough. I reccomend this album to every fan off Ruthless Records and Eazy-E.
