4 out of 5 stars A change of pace.......2005-09-18

The lead singer/mc on this album is Ali "Dee" Theodore. This album is quite the change of pace from what he had done before in the past. He might seem like some "late entry" to the scene with the style he has on this album (upbeat hip-hop,pop)... but Ali has quite the extensive, diverse career.
Before releasing full-length albums he was 'discovered' by Kid Panic, later helping Panic with some production work (track "Baby, We Can Do This").
From there he was picked up by the well-known and well respective hip hop producer, Hank Shocklee (who had done much production work for the legendary Public Enemy). Being enlisted to do production work with the famous Bomb Squad; for the time about as real hip hop and real hip hop could get.
In 1989-1990 Ali Dee teamed up with Zone-TDK to form the group The Next School (one of the earliest Black/White hip hop duos) releasing the album "Profits of Unity". The album titled track was released as a single and got moderate air-play (on hip hop radio stations). Off that album my personal favorite was 'Good to Go'.
In 1992-1993 Ali was working on a solo album. The hit song off of the album was entitled 'Who's the Flava', which received a fair amount of radio play as well as a video on 'Yo MTV Raps'. At that time the album was going to be penned "Ali Dee & The 40 Thieves" but later changed to "Bring it On" (the second single off of the album). In the video for 'Who's the Flava' there are some pretty direct insults to another hip hop group named Young Black Teenagers. A blind man is seen carrying a can for change which has "YBT" written on the side (the initials for the aforementioned group). One rumor heard at the time was that Ali Dee was supposed to be a member for that group, they later didn't allow him in but took some of his ideas for tracks on their album "Dead Enz Kidz Doin Lifetime Bidz". This is quite possible since Ali Dee had done production work for the Bomb Squad (who also did production work for Public Enemy); the Bomb Squad also doing production work on Young Black Teenagers second LP.

His next full-length album was under the title of Mister Jones.
So, while this album sounds very poppy... Ali Dee has been around and carries much more clout in the true hip hop circles than this album would lead one to believe.

4 out of 5 stars Pop, yet fun........2005-08-17

I am not sure what one of the previous posters was implying by asking if this were Christian Music? Considering track 8 is about self love, I find the possibility of this being Christian Rock probably null and void. This cd is not going to change the world. It's nothing briliant. It's nothing amazing.

However, listening to it, something becomes very clear. It's fun. Yes, you heard me. Fun. It seems like a death wish for music to be fun these days. But this is and it works. I agree with the earlier poster that it's a hard cd to like for most people. Hip hop fans will probably not like the guitar parts and the rock fans will probably find annoyance with the record scratching. But if you are one of those select few who can enjoy that happy medium and I do stress "happy" because that's exactly what it is. I highly encourage you to pick up this cd.

3 out of 5 stars ALright Poppy Rap-Rock.......2005-01-05

This CD was alright, but nothing special. They could have done without the interludes and replaced them with other songs. But there were a few good songs on it. Right Hand Mand is one of my favorites off of the CD along with a few others. Some will like this CD. But you won't die without it. But if you ever find it in a bargain bin or somewhere real cheap, pick it up. It may surprise you.

1 out of 5 stars sucked.......2004-04-17

well this cd sucked it only had 3 songs and they were the same word only different styles, and what kind of music is this anyway? christian? well i thought it was a little waste of my money but i do like the rythm and words but when you sing it 3 different times it gets kinda old!

5 out of 5 stars This is great driving music..........2000-06-27

I got a demo tape of Hail Mary on a Hollywood streetcorner while on vacation in 1998. During the hour-long drive back to my friends house, we kept listening to the demo tape over and over and over. We had to have it. It became the soundtrack to our wild-western vacation afterward. This cd will transport you to funky Melrose Ave. The Magic Carpet Ride remake is great!
