Do You Really Want To See An Angel? {4 Stars}.......2007-03-12
I remember when this joint dropped. Though I'm a BCC head and I love most of the guest shots the Representativz did, I never really felt the urge to grab this joint. I found it for about $5 at a used spot about two weeks ago (so ignore that outrageous price listed above) and, since I eventually forgot about this album, I decided to grab it. After a few listens, I'd have to say that this joint is solid all the way through. It's not worthy of 5 stars, but it's definitely deserving of more than 3 stars. Supreme and Lidu Rock have a style that's similar to that of OGC -- but it still reeks of BCC flavor and they're a little more on the fluid side. The production is handled by Supreme himself (8), Shaleek (3), Cuzin Bob (1), Smoke (1), Jeff "Duval" Brown, and Bucktown USA Ent. Keep in mind that this was during a time when the BCC was starting to stray from the Beatminerz format, but the production is still that dark, grimy BCC flavor. I also thought it would be kind of cool that the credits open up to form the shape of a cross. I thought that was creative and original, so I had to mention it.
There isn't much to say in the way of bad things about this album. The only tracks that fall under skip material for this listener are "Spaz Out", "Tell Me", and "Why Y'all Wanna Start". The rest of the album is on point and the Repz come correctly with the beats and the rhymes. You really won't find much filler on this LP aside from those already mentioned.
Angels Of Death is a solid yet underrated album from the BCC affiliates. It's worth checking out and it's guaranteed satisfaction for any fan of the BCC collective as well as those that just dig that grimy boom bap styled rap music. This was definitely one of the better 1999 hip hop releases (though that wasn't really a strong year unless you were signed to Rawkus). I recommend checking this one out.
Standout Tracks: Representativz, Dedicated, God Degree feat. Rock of Heltah Skeltah, Stand Or Fall, Do Da Math, You've Been Waitin feat. Niggy Knock, and Represent Baby feat. Rock, Cocoa Brovaz, Top Dawg, & D. Real
I finally picked it up!!!.......2006-08-09
I slept on it for awhile but finally was able to cop it. I am so glad I did. It reminded me of when I first got into the BCC, it took me right back to when I discovered Da storm & Nocturnal. Recommend for BCC headz. Tight LP!!!
reps.......2000-08-04
the reps keep it pure and simple on their debut. there is no question about there street credentials as they spit fire over underground beats that hit as hard as tyson. this is one of the best boot camp clik albums to come out in a while. my favorite song is "the rich" which features tek from cocoa brovaz. this album includes no wack r&b hooks and no commercial rhymin with them. the reps keep it gutta and with good results. the only problem i have this disc right here is they dont really break any new ground and it gets kinda repetitive. other than that its bangin. one
Angelz of Underground Rap.......2000-01-27
First off, this is Rap in its purest form what the Representativz gave to the people. There are no commercial trax and no R&B Hooks on the Album, just plain raw underground rap coming from Duck Down Records, whoelse? The No. 1 Rap Label in NY, no doubt! Just cannot understand why most of the people buy weak commercial stuff like Puffy - Bad Boy,Swizz - Ruff Ryders, Ja Rule n others and leave hot to death albums in the store. I think thats why we call it underground rap - and the underground will live forever baby, coz true headz don't get commercialized... BCC/MFC 4 Life !
