Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars 1995 west coast hip-hop at it's best.......2007-03-07

DOOMSDAY, the real Boo Yaa masterpiece isn't on Amazon, but at least one of the tracks is repeated here - the ruthless and generously profane "Gs From The Other Side". Many of the other songs here have no swearing, which suggests BYT were trying to get on the radio. The good news is that is doesn't require swearing for Rid to explain in detail how he's going to put a 9mm round into someone's lung cavity for wearing a blue rag, and this album is as brutal and violent as ever.

Moogs and synths update the sound to match the rotten Cali/Warren G "bounce" stuff from the mid 90s. Of course the musicianship of New Funky Nation would have been better, but I'm not going to argue. The album is still pretty good, and Rid raps as well as ever - he's spitting saliva like a mac-10. Monsta O is here too, keeping the bass up to scratch.

The album sleeve is of very low quality, almost like a bootleg made by teenage fans. But all we really need is the front photo to keep track of new tattoos and the bicep enlargement of the greatest Samoans in music.

3 out of 5 stars Chillin' with the homies on the west siiiiiiiiiiiiiiiide..........2006-02-01

Smooth beats, great flows, great voices (specially on Born May 1st and Chilling On The West Side). It's just too bad that Boo-Yaa didn't rely on real intruments like they did on New Funky Nation. Good effort though, the very last Boo-yaa album (Mafia Lifestyle & Angry Samoans sounds like every trash in the rap industry right now)
