Short And To The Point.....Kind Of {3.5 Stars}.......2007-01-24
After a few e-mails requesting more reviews of west coast rap acts, I'll spend the rest of the week reviewing the left coast albums I have in my collection. So, here we go.....
Anyway, there really isn't that much to be said about this one here. There are only four tracks (Track 1 is a 49 second intro) and the entire EP clocks in at just over 18 minutes. The two stand out tracks would have to be the classic "Neighborhood Sniper" and "Merry Muthafu**** X-Mas". The beat to the former (produced by Cold 187um) is just too funky and "Merry Muthafu**** X-mas" has more comedic value than anything else. Some will probably get a kick out of the pre-fergilized Black Eyed Peas (yeah, THOSE Black Eyed Peas -- who were intially signed by Eazy E in '91 only to have their debut album shelved indefinitely) cursing and carrying on all over that track. They are listed in the credits as Will 1 X and At Band Klan (their original name, even though it's misspelled in the credits -- it should read "The Atban Klan"). You can tell they were mad young, but the song makes for a good laugh.
As far as flaws go. Well, it's a 5 track EP. Outside of his obsessing over Dr. Dre leaving (the intro to the song...the credits...overabundant hint dropping....etc...), there really isn't a whole lot to say about it, whether it be negative or positive feedback. The four tracks are vintage Eazy E joints. That's about all I can really say about this joint because, again, it's so short.
5150: Home 4 Tha Sick isn't a bad EP, but whether or not you should hear this hinges on how big an Eazy E fan you are. If you're just a fairweather fan or you're on the fence about Eazy, then pass on this one. I can only recommend this to the die hard Eazy E fans. Everyone else should just buy his debut LP. It's a great album and, because 5150 is out of print now, it's included on the rereleased version of the Eazy Duz It album.
Standout Tracks: Neighborhood Sniper (My Favorite) and Merry Muthafu***** X-mas feat. Menajahtwa, Buckwheat from Lil' Waskals, & Will 1 X and At Band Klan (aka Black Eyed Peas)
What can I say?.......2004-12-09
This album is short but oh so sweet. Its a classic from start to finish and hell, it even has Dolamite on track five. You can't beat that! The best tracks on this EP are "Only If You Want It" & "Sniper". Its not his best work, for that you have to get "Its On -Dr Dre- 187um Killa". Still, this is a must buy!
Classic.......2004-11-28
This Album is a classic no doubt. I can`t understand why everyone complains about the short track amount. Hip Hop albums are not about quanity they are about quility. This Album is classic. EAZY-E was the man. Rest in Peace. 1963-1995
5150 Review!.......2003-11-26
Following Dre's departure from Ruthless, Eazy released this five-track EP called "5150: Home For The Sick". The EP itself is a collector's item if you can find it though it has been re-packaged with the re-release of "Eazy-Duz-It" and three of the five songs also appear on the greatest hits collection, "Eternal E". Aside from the classic "Neighborhood Sniper" track and the anti-Christmas theme, "Merry Muthaphuckin' X-Mas", there isn't a whole lot of reason to run out and get this EP but if you're a true fan of Eazy, it is worth having.
