4 out of 5 stars Pretty sick.......2005-01-17

Man, the first time I heard of Reks, it was on a track with Rasco. Then he just started doing guest tracks with all kinds of other artists and I was thinking man who is this guy? Lyrics are nice, got great flows, man I hope to he drops an album soon. I didn't realize he already had one, and that he was from Boston which is home to another great MC we all have come to know and love. So, when I found out where he was from, I had even higher expectations of a great album. Boy, I definitely was satisfied. Lyrics of hunger are on every track, and most of the beats are good. Some of the beats kinda suck, hence the 4 rating instead of 5. (Whoever knows how to get that half star, let me know.) Get this album though, I wouldn't say it's a classic, but it definitely is worth a purchase

4 out of 5 stars commited to da reks for life.......2003-12-25

Reks doesnt lie when in track 2 he says "after this i gaurentee you gunna be committed to the reks for life". I had never heard of him, got an mp3, heard it and almost immediately bought the album. This is some of the freshest sounding rap you will find anywhere, Reks flows smooth like water, the rhymes are sweet, the feat. artists rock the album, every song sounds good. If you buy one album this year buy this one I can tell you now you gun be committed the reks for life.

5 out of 5 stars Personal favorite.......2002-05-31

First off, I gotta tell you that I heard Reks on a Landspeed compilation and I thought he is Steele of the Cocoa Brovaz. That track was "Skills 101" and that track sounded real hot to me. Then I just checked amazon.com and coincidentally I noticed he got a full lenght album. Reks proved to me with that track so I downloaded the LP. Now, I write a brief impression of the album track by track.

Meet Corey Christie --- really creative intro, I like it, A
You ain't never heard of me --- tight music, tight intro-rhymes, A
To whom it may concern --- tight beats, tight samples and scratches, A
Fearless --- one of my fav's, tight lyrics, tight beats, REks is ill on the track, A+
Beantown to Cali --- I like it but I think the above mentioned tracks are better, B+
Soul of a black folk --- I can't say nothing about that just: listen it, A
Final four --- OK music but the featured guests make it better, B
Skills 101 --- another fav track, TIGHT!, A+
Enemy killer --- really a good song, A
Till Death do us --- another fav, A
Skills 201 --- I must repeat myself: good track all in all, B+
Easy I don't like club tracks but this is OK, B+
Work --- OK music, B
Science of life II. --- another tight song, B+
Frozen moments --- really good lyrics it have, A
What you need --- also tight, B+
*bonus* --- another fav track, deep lyrics, emotional, A+

All in all, Reks has skills and he has a good voice also. REks is ill throughout the entire album which has a good conception too. So I think if somebody did a Boston classic, then this is REKS.

TOLD: 5 stars!

5 out of 5 stars Hot beats, hot lyrics, and a hot style, Reks is it!.......2002-01-25

Boston has been making quite the waves the past couple of years in the hip hop world again with more and more quality artists surfacing from there. 7L and Eso, Edan, Mr. Lif, and Reks amongst others are doing a good job couteracting the effects that groups like Made Men have had, mainly making Boston hip hop look like nothing more than a stale New York spin-off. So now to the album. If the audio clips are not indication enough, this is some good stuff. Production is always a major factor with me, and in this capacity 'Along Came the Chosen' does not dissapoint. I can't say that there is a beat on there which I completely can't stand and skip past it as soon as it starts. And people for me this is rare. Reks is also razor sharp with his lyrics. Nothing mind blowing as far as subject matter, but his execution and delivery are excellent. If you enjoy digging beneath the surface to find gems like this, then Reks is for you. Definitely one of my favs' of 2001.

5 out of 5 stars This is the Best Album to Come Out of Boston So far........2001-12-02

Being an underground fan, and an MC myself I thought this CD contained some of the best material to ever come out of Boston. Reks gives the word "underground" a new meaning by combining dope beats with nasty lyrics. Unlike many MC's out, he actually has something to say besides how great he is and how wack everyone else is. After listening to the CD the listener can get a feeling about where Reks is comin from and what he's been through. Guest appearances include Esoteric, EdoG, Rasco, and many others. The best song is "Science of Life II" featuring A.l.i.a.s. of OVM. I think that even people who are not really underground fans will love this CD, because of the beats, catchy hooks and flavor that Reks brings to it. Big up Reks, O.V.M., Skitzo's - Keep your eyes open for Absolute Proof... PEACE
