5 out of 5 stars Humboldt, Humboldt That Humboldt County High..........2007-04-19

Dope as you will ever get. Just discovered Potluck by listening to Suburban Noize. 1-Ton and Underated can FLOW like no other. Get this album now. Great early that stands the test of rhyme.

4 out of 5 stars ...solid album.......2004-12-16

I have to admit that I didn't expect a whole lot from this album when I first picked it up -- indeed, Humboldt has a rep for it's weed, but definitely not for it's rappers. If there was going to be some good rap in Humboldt, I would've expected it to come from Eureka, a real down-and-out spot that has a least a little bit of grit, not Arcata, which consists mainly of yuppie laundrymats and bead-making stores.

But when I put this in I was definitely suprised in a real good way. The beats on this album are very well done, the bass is thick and deep where it needs to be and the music keeps you involved. The studio work is tight, and plenty of the tracks are filled up enough to let you know some real time and effort was put into this. Each song is different, for the most part, and so they stand out as being unique, which makes you want to throw it in again and gives it some life in your personal musical rotation.

The two MCs on the album are distinct and work well together. The weaker songs that are on here will definitely grow on you -- the title track 'Humboldt County High' at first sounded a little cheesy, and although as a party jam centered around hyping up the crowd, it wasn't taken as far as it should've, but it still comes off okay.

Overall this is a good release. I'm glad that hip-hop can exist behind the Redwood Curtain.

2 out of 5 stars Unimaginative.......2003-01-22

Overall, pretty boring and predictable. Basically, just a bunch of songs about weed, but not half as creative as similar songs by other underground hip-hop artists, or even Cypress Hill.

5 out of 5 stars This ... is "DOPE".......2002-03-18

Potluck is tight underground group that represents whites, blacks, and even Latinos. They are definetly on the rise and represent a new way of concious Hip-Hop. Check it out it is an offical underground classic. I am told that in Humboldt County they sell more CD'S than Brittany Spears or N sync. That got to mean something?
