Customer Reviews:

3 out of 5 stars Good, but not great.......2003-06-15

First of all, I wanna say that I doubt The Beatnuts will ever make an album like Musical Massacre again. It was their "Illmatic", a modern masterpiece in which Juju & Psycho Les came with their best beats to date and did what most rappers cannot, which is not just pile songs on a CD, but make a full, complete & well-rounded album. That being said, I even think the Nuts' last LP, Take it or Squeeze it, is better than this but as always, the beats are so original and well made (especially Originate, co-produced by the master Large Professor) most people can tell the Nuts really know how to dig in the crates for original & crazy funk music. No weak futuristic, keyboard-based rhythms here, these boys really sample dope loops and drums that are their trademark. Overall, nowhere near what the boys are capable of, but worth getting to either complete your Beatnuts collection or here some great production.

5 out of 5 stars Ya Betta Believe That This Album Kicks A**!.......2003-01-10

I got this album the first week it came out, and man...I wasn't dissapointed at all. I've been a Beatnuts fan for a few years and I've never heard a song by these dudes that I didn't enjoy. The Nuts have impressed me once again with their newest album. All the songs are dope.

"The Originators" has great beats with great lyricism that is always on point (typical of The Beatnuts). I especially enjoy the tracks "Yae Yo", "Buying Out The Bar," and "You're Crazy" (featuring Cormega). If you're into real hip hop by creative hip hop artists, look no further and get yourself anything by the Beatnuts...and definately look into this future classic as well.

5 out of 5 stars The Originators.......2002-12-06

Ohh my god this CD is the best they have come out with since their debut EP(Intoxicated Demons), all of their other releases were 9's this is a 10 maybe a 100.Beats are tight and hey Xtra P is on it (The Large Proffessor for those of you who don't know) BUY IT KNOW.

4 out of 5 stars dope enough to pay for if you're into hip-hop.......2002-11-21

there's some pretty good stuff on this album, i.e. the tracks with El Gant (Beat Breez Evahflowin' on DFX battles fame) and then Triple Seis (Terror Squad). Ill Bill of Non-Phixion makes a cameo but I personally don't care much for that track and I was pretty disappointed because Ill Bill makes some dope music and was hoping for a pretty sick collaboration. Regardless, the production isn't top notch, it's not something that would seduce any new listeners but it's satisfactory enough to catch a few hours of rotation in the media player. If you like hip-hop then I advise you to pick up it and give it a listen, you may approve it to be purchase worthy yourself or just might enjoy this album more than me. If you're not an avid listener of hip-hop, don't bother. If you're the casual listener and only pay for the "next classic" album, look elsewhere. However it's dope in my opinion and will catch play every now and then, definitely not deserving of a dust collector. P3@cE! The production is what caused the lack of a complete 5 stars.

5 out of 5 stars Bangin Beats.......2002-11-11

Still being an unbelievable album, The Originators does not compare to some of their old albums, Take it or Squeeze, and Stone Crazy. The beats are bangin and the lyrical style is amazing.
