5 out of 5 stars Defining collection from one of hip hop's greatest groups.......2006-07-14

Naughty By Nature is one of hip hop's most influential, consistent, and simply entertaining groups to date, releasing five albums between 1991 and 2002. The trio of Treach, KayGee, and Vinnie represented New Jersey and brought an original blend of hardcore beats and style with lyrics that were at times menacing, funny, and thoughtful. Production was incredibly consistent for the group, using hard drum patterns, creative samples, sparse instrumentals, and their signature call-and-response choruses. Contrary to Amazon's product description, this is actually Naughty's second greatest hits compilation, following 1999's "Nature's Finest" which soon went out of print and has a nearly identical tracklist to this one. "Naughty's Nicest" includes songs from their first four albums, "Naughty By Nature", "19 Naughty III", "Poverty's Paradise", and "19 Naughty 9: Nature's Fury" (their 2002 album "Iicons" is not represented), as well as a couple from movie soundtracks. Basically it contains all of their classic singles and a few deep tracks that didn't receive enough play. This compilation is certainly a great buy because some of their albums have since gone out of print. Naughty By Nature is one of hip hop's greatest groups and I feel they never get enough respect.

This compilation begins with their classic anthem "OPP" from their debut album. From it's memorable chorus and theme to it's hard beat and lyrics, it displays everything that people loved about the group. This is followed by "Uptown Anthem", a song representing their hood, a true classic from the "Juice" soundtrack. Next comes the beautifully uplifting "Everything's Gonna Be Alright", which samples Bob Marley's "No Woman No Cry" and provides hope to struggling people everywhere. "Guard Your Grill" and "Wickedest Man Alive" are both fun, tough NBN tracks that I love listening to. "Everyday All Day" has a great arrangement of instrumentals, with keyboards and a sax on the hook. "Hip Hop Hooray" is legendary, with an extremely catchy beat and a classic call-and-response in the chorus. "Written on Ya Kitten" always makes me laugh, and KayGee's previously unavailable remix of "It's On" is a nice added bonus. "Poor Man's Poetry" is a great song from the "Poetic Justice" soundtrack. My favorite track on this compilation might be "Feel Me Flow", from the 1995 "Poverty's Paradise" album. It is inescapably catchy, a sweet looped beat and a chorus that I can't help but sing to. It's followed by the excellent "Craziest" from the same album and the very thoughtful and bittersweet 2Pac tribute song "Mourn You Til I Join You". The compilation closes with "Dirt All By My Lonely", a nice cut from "19 Naughty 9: Nature's Fury".

If you're at all interested in hip hop, I strongly recommend "Naughty's Nicest" for the collection, because there's not a single song on hear that I don't love and it's very definitive of their career. Also, since every album except "Naughty By Nature" and "Iicons" is now out of print, it's hard to find most of their other work, so this compilation spans their careers well. NBN is truly one of hip hop's finest groups and this compilation effectively shows why.

5 out of 5 stars A great collection of songs from the originators of call-and-response rap! You'll love this CD!.......2006-01-08

I haven't heard any of their other compilation CDs, but I at least know that this one is extremely satisfying. All their hits are here ("O.P.P.", "Hip Hop Hurray", etc.) and even some non-hits which are still very very good. Naughty By Nature originated the call-and-response rap style which is very fun and definitely not a cheap gimmick. Every rapper in the group is FANTASTIC - not only can they spit extremely well but they have great charisma. You will love how they sound. The lyrics are also very well done - they're definitely catchy, somewhat memorable and, most of all, interesting and occasionally deep. The production may be a bit dated on some of the songs, but in no way does this hinder the experience. Rap fans and probably non-rap fans will absolutely love this CD! Highly recommended!

5 out of 5 stars One of the best.......2004-08-05

The greatest hits of Naughty by Nature is simply their best album, Naughty by Nature is one of the top 10 rap groups of all time and Treach simply has the best flow ever to be heard on the mic. The album starts off with NbN's most popular track OPP and then heads right into Uptown anthem a song I like a lot. One of the best cuts on the album is Everything's gonna be alright. Track's 4-8 are all great but probably the best track on the album is Hip Hop Hooray where Treach just embarrases every other MC with the flow and lyrics he spits. It also started the famous "Heeeey Hoooo". Written on ya kitten ONCE AGAIN SHOWS TREACH'S RIDICULOUS FLOW. Track's 11 and 12 are dope and then my favorite feel my flow, it has the best beat, lyrics, flow and chorus on the album. Craziest is another great track, i love the chorus and how they give props to a lot of other cities besides their own. The album ends strong as well.

5 out of 5 stars Read.......2004-04-26

All I gotta say about this CD is that its dope and you should buy it.

3 out of 5 stars 2nd Compilation STILL Incomplete!!!.......2004-02-02

This is the 2nd Naughty By Nature compilation (following Tommy Boy's 'Nature's Finest' from 1999), and this release from Rhino isn't a complete collection of Naughty's hits. Like the earlier CD, this collection is missing 2 big hits, namely 'Jamboree' (featuring Zhane), and Naughty's major hit from 2002, 'Feels Good' (featuring 3LW). If Rhino & Tommy Boy can't release a definitive compilation for Naughty By Nature, I urge fans to take matters into their own hands. In short, MAKE YOUR OWN CDs, and ignore these half-baked collections from the record companies!
