Album Description

In the mid-'90s Jacken, Duke and B-Real of Cypress Hill united to form the well-respected group Psycho Realm, and delivered a staggering blow in the name of West Coast hardcore hip-hop with their self-titled debut album, released in 1997 on Ruffhouse/Columbia. Raw, cutting-edge and uncompromising, the record was embraced by the streets and the critics alike for its winning combination of rock-solid beats, reality-based themes and authoritative voices. Around this time, Duke and Jacken introduced Cynic to Crow and the two clicked, forming Street Platoon. With B-Real unable to devote more time to Psycho Realm because of his commitments to Cypress Hill, Duke and Jacken with Street Platoon formed Sick Symphonies in 1998, an independent label devoted exclusively to the Psycho Realm/Street Platoon team. Unfortunately, just as winter follows summer, their world was turned upside down in 1999 when Duke was shot during a random incident at a fast-food restaurant, leaving! him paralyzed from the neck down. Crippled but defiant, the squad continued on, releasing Street Platoon's debut album Steel Storm in 2001, and two more Psycho Realm albums: A War Story, Book 1 in 2000, and A War Story, Book 2 in 2003.

Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars IT'S NOT THAT SICK.......2005-10-23

I have been a strong follower of Psycho Realm for a long time, since discovering their music my faith in strong hard intelligent lyrics and dark bangin gritty beats have constantly reminded me that hip hop had not been completley taken over by brash hollow lyrics and wack beats which the public is constantly bombarded with on a weekly basis.
Street platoon the duo who run with the Realm have displayed on their album that they also have an understanding to what real hip hop is although that one track pink is unforgivable, what were they thinking putting that piece of sh*t on an otherwise bangin set.
Together Psycho Realm and Street Platoon came together to form Sick Symphonies and the result... well let's just say it is a bit of a mixed bag, you see Sick Jacken of the Realm has had to go solo because his rhyme partner and brother Duke was involved in a situation which left him parylised and had to quit the group
meaning that for Jacken it seemed logical to maybe team up with someone else, but for the Platoon rhymers Cynic and Crow they just can't really compare to the pairing which was the Gonzalez brothers and it shows, while Jacken is still on point with the lyrics and the Platoon who seem to have stepped up their game since their debut are solid they are just not up to par with Jacken that it is clear only Duke could match him with the ferocious intensity that he always tends to deliver, but I can forgive this as long as the beats come hard and while some of them do others while not bad are just not what I expected from either of the two groups.
The beats still have a hard edge but they just don't compare to previous work which is a shame because they were very consistent with the production although it has to be noted that on the Psycho Realm albums they always produced it themselves while this was produced by the guys that did the street platoon album, and it is not as good as that album either.

Overall if you are a fan of Psycho Realm or Street Platoon I recommend that you give this a try but just don't expect it to have the same impact as their previous work.

4 out of 5 stars it needs a lil more psycho, but it still chingon.......2005-09-04

IM A REALLY BIG PSYCHO REALM FAN! IGOT ALL THERE CD'S AND EVEN THERE UNRELEASED TRACKS. THE NEW ALBUM IS GOOD BUT ITS MISSING THE DARK ASS BEATS, THATS WHAT MAKE SICK PSYCHO REALM THE BOMB!!!
BUT I STILL LIKE THE ALBUM! SICK JACK JUST KEEPS COMING WITH THOSE SICK, BUT INTELLIGENT FLOWS, NOBODY COULD MATCH OR COME CLOSE TO HIM. IF YOUR IN TO THE SICK SIDE YOU GOTTA COP WAR STORY BOOK 1 AND 2, AND THE FIRST ALBUM!!!!

4 out of 5 stars not the best.......2005-09-03

this is a good cd but if you just heard about psycho realm and want to hear good music get the other cd by psycho realm.

3 out of 5 stars DISAPOINTMENT!.......2005-08-26

I am a hughe Psycho Realm Fan, ever since they first appeared on the "mi Vida Loca" Soundtrack, I was Fascinated with they'r Gritty Vocals, and Revolutionary Lyrics. After B-Real Left the group, the group lost its only commericial sense, wich was a good thing, and led to the Creations of Book 1, and Book 2, wich are some of the Best Albums hip-hop has to Offer. And that leads us to this album, wich is a sort of Compilation like album, featuring everything Sick Symphonies has to offer. This is very different from the 3 Psycho Realm Albums, and i know this is not a Psycho Album, but i was diapointed in the new Beat style, it is sounding very commercial, wich is something i despise. I feel that all the Grit, and the Edge of the realm is Fading, and they are destined to have the same Faith of the Wu-Tang Clan. I Hope that if and when an Official Psycho Realm album drops, it wont be like the sick Symphonies Compilation, im out!

4 out of 5 stars A WHOLE NEW STYLE.......2005-08-13

I am definitely feeling the new style of beats they are using, their lyrics are on point as usual to me this is a surprise hit especially since Duke isnt on this album.
