5 out of 5 stars RARE GOLD.......2003-02-10

God bless Rhino for making all these obscure vinyl rarities available on disc. Honey Cone was a girl group that scored some successes in the early 1970s - "Want Ads", later in the decade covered by disco group Ullanda, was their biggest hit. The Chi-Lites' biggest hit was "Have You Seen Her?" from 1971, but this track "Are You My Woman" has the same smooth blend of sweet harmonies and spoken sections. "Treat Her Like A Lady" by the Cornelius Brothers & Sister Rose was a huge hit in 1971, after which I never heard of them again. Great to have this on disc now! Other wonderful memories from 1971 include "Funky Nassau" by Beginning Of The End, the bouncy reggae of Dave & Ansel Collins' "Double Barrel" (Their other UK hit in 1971 was "Monkey Spanner"), Jean Knight's "Mr Big Stuff" (She hit the charts again many years later with "My Toot Toot") and The Undisputed Truth's only top ten ten hit, in a style similar to The Temptations. I had never heard the songs by 8th Day, Paul Humphrey or King Floyd before, but they're true blue classics from the golden age of soul music. This is an excellent collection of brilliant early 70's soul, highly recommended for the connoiseur.

5 out of 5 stars Some great forgotton jamz!.......2002-06-21

Double Barrel is an instrumental that I remember listening to as a kid but totally forgot how cool it was. Thank the powers that be that I have found it again. Almost every track on this one is a stone cold groove!
