Customer Reviews:
Solid album from a well-established soulstress.......2007-04-09
The sweet voice of Deniece Williams makes almost any song worth hearing at least once, and she scored a couple of big ones here. Contains the hit slow jams "Silly" and "You're All That Matters", as well as the "slo-disco" gem "It's Your Conscience". I will frown upon one thing, though. Even if you were "all that mattered" to me, I'd still rather take your cigarette and step on it rather than light it for you.
Almost 25 Years Old....And Still Touches The Heart!!!!!.......2005-09-10
Deniece Williams..... What can you really say other than she has one of the most angelic voices in the world. She never ever received the praise that she so rightfully deserved in the music industry. "My Melody" is a treasure to listen to over and over again.
Starting from the title track "My Melody"....the rhythme arrangements and harmany that Thom Bell put together is simply awesome.
"It's Your Conscience", strong and direct delivery that grabs you with the melody and hook.
"Silly", just listen and judge for yourself....simply brilliant.
"Stranger", One of the most powerful beginnings of a song that I have ever heard in my life....Thom Bell really put it down with this track.
"What Two Can Do", laid back and sensual with the delivery that captivates the heart, spirit and opens the mind of what 2 really can do together...(Beautiful Relationship Track).
"You're All That Matters", Well where do I start? The most passionate song that Thom Bell ever wrote and the delivery of Deniece Williams on this track makes you feel so in love with love and the ideal of being in love with that one person that Really, but Really all that matters to you. Best Song she ever recorded (Without A Doubt) Just listen to this track and you will feel like you can't get enough. Simply Brilliant!!!!!
"Suspicious" and "Sweet Surrender" nice fill in songs, I just feel that its so hard to follow up a song like "You're All That Matters" So I guess they are ok for the project.
All In All...purchase this Cd and you will find that you have been missing a true female diva, singer and most importantly....a musical vessel to reignite love in music that has been missing for so long in todays music. Like I said almost 25 years old....and it still touches my heart. Thank You Niecy!!!!!
This a great CD!.......2005-02-28
Each and every song has a great melody and she sings them like she owns them. Unlike a lot of today's R&B singers, Niecey was the real thing. She stood out like a blazing star back then. Her voice is unmistakable!
On this dynamite project, she gives great songs! Back then, who needed a musical project with 13 songs with at least 8 of them as filler, when you could just punch it through the roof with a solidified 8 perfect songs! On this Cd, you get the sweet, the tasty, the delicious and all for the discriminating listener. I own this CD and it stays in heavy rotation, just at the album did when it first came out. You can't pick one song off this CD that isn't melodic or easy on the ears and spirit.
This is what it means to be a singer.......2004-07-17
Niecey did it again. She sparkled, she dazzled, and she manipulated her audience by commanding her sultry angelic voice to lure and entice the feelings and thoughts of her audience. This is one of my favorite albums that Ms. Williams ever created. Because it has two of my favorite songs: "Silly" and "strangers." Although most of the popular audience will find "silly" as the best song on the album, due to its popular play on old school radio, I do not. I thought that the song "strangers" was a brilliant and better masterpiece. And in my opinion one of Deniece Williams best songs. The introduction to "Strangers" begins with the high angelic soprano timbre that many of today's superstars like Beyonce, Ashanti, and even Alisha Keyes do not have. The music for the song speaks for itself. The strings of the violin, the beating of the drums, the musical notes of the guitars all contribute in creating a powerful musical masterpiece, yet it never overpowers Deniece's voice one bit. As she sings "Strangers" her voice joins the chorus of the orchestra yet it is never looses its strength or power. As she says goodbye to her lover for the last time in "strangers' you feel the closing stages of a lost love. Unlike the music acts of today with phonies such as Beyonce, Britney Spears, and Ashanti who rely on their physical charms and unfortunately and shamelessly called Divas. Ms. Williams is a true diva of music. Her grace, elegance, and flair formulate a true diva of R&B and soul. Thus, the album entrenches music, love, and superb lyrical composition and conveys the essence of true soul music.
Sweet and beautiful.......2003-02-13
This album, like most of the good R&B of the early 80s, did not get the recognition it deserved. Suffice it to say that as everything Deniece Williams did in those days, it is sweet and beautiful. You can listen to it as is all the way through, and you will surely be in a good mood when it's over.
