Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars best nocturne.......2006-07-09

I thought this was a great CD, especially Harlem Nocturne. I play piano and so this is by far the best rendition of that song I've ever heard. My father in 1990 thought this
was the best rend. he'd heard too-he grew up with Louis Armstrong playing music in his house in chicago in the 30's. The whole CD is easy and Great!

2 out of 5 stars Cup of Kofi, Cream and Sugar.......2005-06-28

This is easy listening "jazz." Too close to Kenny G and Michael Feinstein for my tastes. It's played expertly, but the music never challenges, never takes you on a journey. It will offend no one, but frankly I don't even want this in the background when I'm dining. I'd sooner grab an old Tom Scott album. Many many find this soothing and relaxing, and I cannot argue with that. But if your taste runs toward Coltrane, or the Brecker Brothers, or Wynton Marsalis, you will find this cup of Kofi to be pretty weak.

4 out of 5 stars Good jazz composition by an Achimotan from Ghana. .......2004-10-07

I first saw Kofi play on a TV show called Weekend rendezous sometime in 1991, supposedly a year after releasing this album.
The tracks I heard moved me very much and it took me a year to get the LP recorded on Tape. I later had the CD and played the track Lady Sits Alone in a nite club. The people who danced to it never believed a Ghanaian composed the song. All the tracks are catchy and especially Elmina and Harlem Nocturne's acoustic grand piano works are superb. The CD is a must buy............

3 out of 5 stars harlem nocturne by Kofi.......2002-08-17

I am a 50 + music lover of all types of stuff. Although this cd has been out for years I doubt that many have heard it because it is a little obscure. While driving around southern california one day I heard this version of Harlem Nocturne on a local jazz station. It had to be the very best version I have ever heard. I could not get it out of my head so I ordered my own cd and relish bringing it over to my friends homes to play and say to them "listen to this, it will knock your socks off". This cd is a great gift idea for your music lover friends.

4 out of 5 stars Terrific Smooth Jazz Album for Easy-Listening.......1998-06-19

Kofi provides a variety of keyboard sounds that are nicely blended with saks, brass, bass and percussion. This album provides a stimulating background for relaxing, or, for spinning on the CD-ROM while working at the computer.

The only reason that I had for not giving this collection a 5-star-rating was, that the vocals were a little on the lame side. That may just be my perception, however, since my taste runs pretty strictly towards instrumental jazz.

If you like Kofi, and/or, if you like smooth jazz, you will not be disappointed by this album. His cool rendition of the haunting theme in "Harlem Nocturne" is worth the price of the CD all by itself! Enjoy.
