Customer Reviews:
The best Anita CD!.......2005-10-04
This is the best CD Anita has ever released. Every song is better than the next. "Fairy Tales", "Perfect Love Affair" & "Love You To The Letter" are perfect examples of the Anita sound that she has come to be synonymous with. If you are an Anita fan, you simply must have this CD. You will not be disappointed!
ANITA DESERVES A STANDING OVATION!.......2005-06-23
Anita is at her best on this album, the other musicians such as Nathan East (bass), Ricky Lawson (drums), Greg Philliganes (Piano), Vernone Fails (Keyboards) are all at their finest producing melodic improvisation. Michael J.Powell also deserves some credit for the crystal clear quality on this fine produce.
In my humble opinion, this is Anita's best album, she is smooth, sophisticated & sexy, in fact she's simply peerless, no one can compare & no one even comes close.
Anita glides effortlessly through this album with great panache. Her phrasing is timely and above all accurate.
The stand out for me on this album is "Love you to the letter" as I'm a sucker for old-fashioned lyrics. It rates as one of my top 10 romantic ballads of all times (pretty much alongside "There's no easy way" by James Ingram).
If anyone deserves a standing ovation in the hall of fame of rhythm & blues, it certainly is Anita Baker. I'm beginning to believe in her fairy tales!
The Greatest.......2005-06-15
I"m a 25 year old male and I have been listening to Anita Baker since I was about 7 years old and this album is a masterpiece just like all the rest. She is the greatest to me and always will be. Anita is the only artist that I know of that I can listen to every album which I own everyone of them and I can always find a song to fit my mood. The Greatest enough said!
Steamy & Mellow!!!.......2005-06-13
This is one of Anita Baker's most complex works. Most of the songs were written by Anita in collaboration with other accomplished songwriters.
Some of the highlights include the richly intricate "Talk To Me". Next there's the most mellow "Perfect Love Affair" with Anita's velvety vocal. "Soul Inspiration", with a dazzling arrangement and Anita's full-bodied vocal, is a shining star! "Lonely" is fascinating with its varied tempos and Anita's sultry vocal. She builds this one to a red-hot frenzy! The piano solo is a cooker as well. Then there's "No One To Blame" with its bluesy atmosphere and raw emotion. The finale "Fairy Tales" weaves a lyrical story complete with a fine arrangement as Anita's vocal builds along with this tale. Kudos to Greg Phillinganes on the piano solo at the end. It is hot!!
A very original and unorthodox album for its time........2004-07-30
This album had much stronger jazz influences than Baker's three previous albums. At a time when most female R&B singers were turning to heavily-synthesized and terribly over-produced club/ dance music, Baker refused to compromise her artistry -- in the end, she came up with a real winner. "Talk To Me", "Whatever It Takes", "More Than You Know", "Perfect Love Affair" and "Soul Inspiration" are all excellent examples of smooth and classy Adult Contemporary-R&B at its best. No serious fan of adult-oriented R&B or jazz vocals should be without this album.
