2 out of 5 stars A simply good album from a less heard Diva.......2002-11-28

If many of you haven't heard of Miki Howard Love Confessions is an album to start your Miki Howard collection. This cd starts with the jazzy Baby Be Mine which was released as the first single and simply is beautiful. You've Changed is a cover of the Billie Holiday hit which was also a single and no one sings it better than Miki That's what Love Is finds Miki dueting with former husband Gerald Levert and it's amazing with Gerald who many of you remember now is singing solo and this duet shows when Miki used to sing duets her way. In too Deep is a fun dance hit and will get you moving Crazy is a jazzy ballad and it is the best ballad in the world that is left off of love collections. Bitter love is a high energy dance hit that will get you dancing and toe tapping the whole time. Reasons and I wanna be there are two love ballads that are very lovely. The title track is a fun track that is moving and soulful. Edge of love {Released as a bonus track on the cd only}is from the Whoopi Goldberg movie Fatal Beauty is a saxophone tinged ballad that should have been released as a single. So try one of Miki's albums and you will not be disapointed. I also recomend Vesta's 1988 cd Vesta 4U to hear a wonderful voice like Miki's
Enjoy,
Regis

4 out of 5 stars Miki's "Confessions" a sin to miss.......2000-09-06

With her sweet, soulful clarity and stunning good looks, it's always been a bit puzzling that Miki Howard wasn't a bigger star. Granted, she had a faithful fan following and a string of soul singles from the mid-80's to early 90's, but crossover success eluded her. But the blame is apparently to be laid on label politics and lazy publicists, as her sophomore recording, 1987's "Love Confessions," proves Howard to be one of the more talented and sophisticated singers R&B has ever seen.

The record demonstrates this on contact with the bluesy torcher of an opening track "Baby, Be Mine," a gospel-tinged treasure that shows off her voice as well as anything she's ever recorded; her ad libs in the final section are especially spine-tingling. A sleek, pop-flavored remake of the Billie Holiday staple "You've Changed" is another winner, and a duet with Gerald Levert, "That's What Love Is," ranks as one of the slickest-produced and joyously performed ballads of 80's R&B. The dancey "In Too Deep" and "Bitter Love" sound more than a little dated at this point, but the upbeat title track makes up for them with a classic dance/pop sensibility that still grooves hard today...and again Miki's soul cries and flourishes prove she's a sure-footed vocalist to be reckoned with. A slowed-down reading of Earth Wind & Fire's "Reasons" is icing on the cake, sure to win over fans of both classic and modern soul.

For those of us who cherish "Quiet Storm" artists like Roberta Flack and Anita Baker, this record still ranks as a strong outing years after its release. Lush and touching, Miki Howard's "Love Confessions" is full of soulful truths.

5 out of 5 stars You've Changed.......2000-04-11

Mikki has one of the powerful voices. This piece could not only touch lives but mend broken hearts. All of her albums are nice, but this one can be played over and over agian. It's funky and soulful!
