Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars Unfortunately overlooked smooth soul.......2005-08-29

The Whatnauts needed a better name. That's the main thing. They most definitely had the chops, with Billy Herndon on lead vocal and angelic falsetto, Gerald Pinkney on baritone and Garrett Jones in the tenor slot. They had the material, with classic slices of Philly soul like "Message From A Black Man", "I Dig Your Act", "Genuine", "Please Make The Love Go Away" and "You Forget Too Easy". They just needed two things: a better name and a strong record label. They went through several of the smaller labels (the biggest was Stang), never quite hitting the big time like their contemporaries the Moments, the Chi-Lites and the Stylistics, but their music is superfine and a joy to discover. Give a listen; these men were the real deal!
