Customer Reviews:
Soul Sides.......2006-12-27
At The Club is a great collection of overlooked soul sides by famous and not so famous artists. Each track the drenched in soul goodness (even Mel Torme).
For me, it's the little details that make each track here special. The way the guitar comes in on the second verse of Clarence Carter's Looking For A Fox, Rufus Thomas's soul scream on Memphis Train, the tinkle of piano on Leon Helm's He Don't Love You, etc.
The exictement, power and sound of these tracks cannot (and will never) be replicated.

Outstanding Mix of 50s-60s Atlantic Soul.......2000-02-18
This CD is a collection of Atlantic and "blue label" Stax songs covering soul in a rocking style. The original version of "Some Other Guy" by Richard Barrett is a particular highpoint! This is a great collection for dancing, and unlike some of these "Northern Soul" collections, vary tempo and rhythm. If you bought "Chess Club Rhythm and Soul" this makes a fine companion volume.
