5 out of 5 stars THIS IS TRUE TALENT....forget today's WANNABE'S.......2006-06-02

After hearing the song Rooftop on my favorite website that plays and introduces me to all the best of the Neosoul songs you would ever known existed. Neosoulcafe.com introduced me to Yahzarah and instantly I fell in love with the album and Amazon made it possible to get it. She is what TRUE TALENT is...she's not a wannabe artist, she is so gifted with her lyrics, sounds, and expressions...WOW I felt so incredible listening to Yahzarah, she gives you that edge that inspires you to be better than what you are today. THANKS Yahzarah!! THANKS AMAZON!!

5 out of 5 stars BACK-UP SINGERS STRIKE BACK.......2005-01-04

The neo-soul princess is here. With 3rd dimension beats and vocals, YahZarah takes you on a journey through song.

01.Genesis (10/10) - The intro that takes you into "Same Page". With a similar beat, Yah lets you know it's time.

02. Same Page (10/10) - The diamond of the album. Letting it be known she wants to inhale peace and exhale joy. Wonderfull.

03. Roof Top (9/10) - With help of an electric quitar and a troubled melody, Yah tells the story of her man telling her to meet her on the roof top and be to run away with him.

04. Blackstar (10/10) - Sunshine vocals, strings and a simple beat will get you somewhere. Yah wants to be a blackstar. In other words, she wants to be different then the others.

05. Guillotine (8/10) - A somewhat techno beat with wind-like backgrounds, plain chords. Yah is warning us to beware of the guillotine.

06. Amazing Grace (10/10) - An interlude of Yah singing amazing grace.

07. Love Is You (9/10) - Piano and strings vibe with this song along with vocals of Yah. Explaining what real love is.

08. Natural (10/10) - When I first heard this song, I hated it, but I warmed up to it and now it's one of my favorites off the album. It's about how this man she loves is so natural.

09. Fire Fly (10/10) - This is another interlude and that makes me upset because it's too slick to be 1:36.

10. Nova (9/10) - Yah tells the story of a young girl by the name of "Nova" and how she's moving too fast. A message!

11. Laugh (10/10) - This is the song! I can't explain the instruments used in this song but it has that gospel beat every now and then in the track. It's about when you feel depressed, just laugh. It's a winner!

12. Urgency (10/10) - One of the best, if not the best song on the album. Sequenced chords and a live-like band beat. I still haven't gotten what this song is about. But another track that should've been longer. It was only 3:35, but I could see it being 4:45 or something because of the vibe it brings.

13. Feel Me (10/10) - This song reminds me of Jill Scott because the bridge of the song, she speaks poetry for about a minute or so. She wants this man to feel her and not to miss out on her love.

14. Friday (9/10) - If you trying to Yahzarah, she ain't here cause it's Friday. She's going out!

15. Sally (7/10) - Another interlude. If I'm not mistaken, it's an old gospel song.

16. Baby love (5/10) - Personally, I cannot stand this song. It's pretty much a rock song. Yah could've kept this one.

17. Blackstar (Reprise) (9/10) - The end of the album by playing blackstar once more.

Overall, this album is very good. Backup singers are not taken seriously and Yah deserves her props!!!

4 out of 5 stars Another good artist who should be recognized.......2003-09-18

I'm the owner of the 1st version of this release. After seeing her open up for "Res" (her show was much better)in Atlanta a fews years back, I had this CD in my collection the next day. Yet, another former back-up singer for "Erykah Badu" (if you seen the Bag Lady video, she's the dark, slim, sexy one), Yahzarah has stepped up and done her own thang'. You should expect nothing more than just good music from this artist.... like you would from any other back-up singer of Badu. Blackstar is the stand-out track on this CD, but songs like: Guillotine, Natural, Feel Me and Same Page are not to be over looked.

yall know my taste by now.... this one taste real good.

5 out of 5 stars Superb CD.......2003-03-30

I purchased this CD over a year ago (just on whim). It was the best money I had spent in some time. This CD is so phenomenal that it's caused me to write a review for the very first time. This CD is not to be slept on. Musically and lyrically, HEAR ME is just on another level. And this woman's voice is exquisite. Whether singing softly and sweetly on the beautiful track "Love Is" or hitting some of the highest notes this side of Chaka Khan on the soul-rock tune "Babylove", this woman has all the goods. The music is extremely soulful and funky, but the lyrics just blew me away. On "Rooftop", she sings about running away with her drug-dealing boyfriend ("Gotta leave in a hurry. Gotta pack my bags. Gotta call my mama and tell her that I won't be back."). And on "Feel Me", she's putting the moves on a brotha ("Don't let this opportunity pass you by, and watch another man be good to me."). Over a year later, this CD is still in heavy rotation in my CD player. Definitely a can't-miss classic!!
