Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars Sylver's Greatest Hits - The other collection.......2005-10-04

For those of you looking for "Misdemeanor", it's on the Razor & Tie record label "Boogie Fever: The Best of the Sylvers" CD. I personally bought this CD for the song "Roulette Wheel of Love." I can listen to the Sylvers' women 24-7 (but then, I'm biased towards the ladies!!).

I must admit though, that "High School Dance" and "Freestyle" are good dance tunes. One song which I must assume came from their early days is "That's What Love Is Made Of." Their familial harmony works so well on that song. If you can get it at a good price, I say - buy it!

4 out of 5 stars Special alright.......2004-11-08

I will put my review fro 'showcase' here because the photo on teh front of thsi album is the same phot that is on the front of 'shwocase'. I really liked the showcase album, I thought it was worht 4/5. The bgi hti from that album was Boogie fever, which is on here. Roulette Wheel of love is another standout from Showcase as is Cotton Candy. My other favourites from showcase were 'I can be for real' and 'Keep on keepin on', both fairly sophisticated, beautiful ballads with haunting chord changes. I'll have to get the LP something special. I can't wait.

4 out of 5 stars R. I. P. Edmund Sylvers..........2004-03-28

I was recently watching my worn VHS copy of The Sylvers on "American Bandstand" from 1976 and was instantly transported back to my happy, hip childhood. For Nostalgia's sake, this LP works to fine effect. "Boogie Fever", "Hotline" and all the disco era hits here are bubblegum soul/pop at it's best (topped only by The Jacksons)and are still great fun to spin when you're in the mood for some old school that isn't the usual heartbreak balladry/repetitive funk junk. "Something Special" was the group's best studio LP and is worth searching out. Sadly, the fine voice of leader Edmund Sylvers was recently silenced after he succumbed to lung cancer at 47. I can't speak for anyone else, but I'll miss him. Funny thing, I suddenly don't feel like a kid anymore, But this great music helps me remember what it was like.

3 out of 5 stars Hard to find album that is missing the meat.......2002-10-18

The Sylvers are a group that should be in high regards as the Jacksons. However, most of their albums are hard to find and this album is missing "Misdemeanor". This album should be call Sylvers for beginners.

5 out of 5 stars Mostly from their "Something Special" Lp.......2001-08-08

Although the wonderful and summery "Misdemeanor" or "Fools' Paradise" aren't included, what's on here is actually quite enjoyable. Much of this was taken from their 1976 lp "Something Special" which was quite popular when I was the in 6th grade. This was the source for "Boogie Fever," Hot Line," High School Dance," and the lovely ballads "Aint No Doubt About It" and "That's What Love Is Made Of." For those who consider much of the Sylvers work at this time as being a "poor man's Jackson Five," that is partially due to the fact that Freddie Perren, who produced many of the J-5's Motown hits, also produced many of these songs. Also, the intoductory bassline for "Ain't No Doubt About It" is a suspicious clone of the bassline of the J-5's 1968 pre-Motown hit "Big Boy." Makes you go hmmmm.. but none of thast keeps this from being a pleasant and enjoyable CD on its own.
