Customer Reviews:

3 out of 5 stars Buy Only If You're A Die Hard James Brown Fan...........2001-04-13

...I don't know what really happened when Brown recorded with Full Force, but this CD smacks of initial and youthful enthusiasm at the top to outright anger in the middle to "Just let us get through this session" on the later track, "Can't Get Enough"....James then seems to be saying "Well, lemme go on back to what I know" on the track "It's Your Money"--it sounds like 70s style James Brown and the JBs. In my opinion it has one great, great track which is "Static". You have to be a big JB fan to get to the rest.

4 out of 5 stars calling all copycats.......2000-12-30

Jaems Brown grooved on this set with Full Force."Static" is a Jam that put his other late 80's to shame.it spoke the truth at the many folks who ride on his style.now it's true His 60's&70's Material wiil run circles over his later work but this is a alright for it's time period. He still has many trying to be like Him.He Knows He is Bad&Unstoppable.

4 out of 5 stars The Doctor of Funk proclaims that He's Real!.......2000-10-06

Looking back at the James Brown experience, James admitted himself that the things that they are doing today, I did yesterday, the things that I'll do tomorrow, they will bring back in the future (paraphrased). Listening to this album shows how versatile James is. Working with Full Force when they were at the height of their career, James showed how "fresh" he can be, yet innovative. Look at "Static-pts 1 & 2". During the entire song, you heard the static you hear from your old records going. This instantly gives it an "old" sound. But it sounds like an '80'S album. And the groove is infectous even though the song doesn't incorporate any JB type horns in it. "You and Me" is a nice James' 80ish ballad. James puts out the message on the title track basically telling all the samplers that he is the king. So leave him alone. "Keep Keepin'" is a serious jam that keeps you going. And with Maceo Parker blowin' that saxaphone only the way he can, this is my second favorite tune behind "Static". But this is a James Brown '80's sound. If you are a true 1970's JB fan, this album will somewhat satisfy you, but we all know that nothing can touch his late sixties-early seventies grooves. But you figure, in another ten years, the sound of this album will sound as fresh as these sounds in the future decade. But if you like more of James Brown singing more slow songs or ballads, this is not the album for you. Until the next review-Funk ON America!
