5 out of 5 stars Pleasurable. .......2005-12-14

I love this album. I got the 8 treack when it first came out and just fell in love with this album. Westbound records was a "low budget" type of company, but the mix was pretty clean. Junie of course sang lead on the title cut "Pleasure" the album has the extended version with Junie playing his organ. However the climax of the 45 version, Junie let's out a holler "HAAAAAAAAAAY HAAAAYEEE Yeah Ha Yeah Ha! Laid it is a slick cut with Junie leading on the mic. "I don't wanna steal the money but my woman's acting funny, and the jail house ain't too sunny". My other favorites are "Paint Me" & "Walked Away Fom You". Of course "Funky Worm" was the cut and even today, it makes me laugh to hear Granny say "Don't stop now honey get down". The slow jams are nice with Sugar foot singing "our Love Has Died" and he and Junie sharing on Varee is Love'. My least favorite is "Pride & Vanity" (Mary J Blige samples this on "What's the 411". I do recommend this. It brings back precious memories of when I was a dancing teenager.

5 out of 5 stars Westbound Groove Grease at its best ! ! !.......2003-07-04

This isn't the smooth (yet funky) Cameo/Gap Band'ish Ohio Players of Skin Tight and Fire fame... same group only much harder and tripped out... I like them both mind you, but this album is really over the edge. I think what made these earlier albums must have been Junie (later of Funkadelic fame) who left the group when they went over to Mercury (then Sugar emerged as leader.) - - Driven by funky horn lines, the grooves are uniquiely Ohio Players funk... If for some reason you've never heard this side of the Players (or even the players at all) I guess you could describe their early '70s sound as Tower of Power meets Billy Preston with a very typical WESTBOUND sound, and like Kool & The Gang (circa Spirit of the Boogie) expect to hear not only some very funky grooves, but an occasional tripped out Jazzy horn solo or two over it (The trumpet solo on the title track is a fave of mine ! ! ! ) - - For true funk fans the Ohio Player's PAIN, PLEASURE, CLIMAX (in fact all of their Westbound albums with the bald chick on the cover) are definite MUST HAVE spins !

4 out of 5 stars Fo' sho!!.......2003-05-04

Last time I heard this was on LP and I was 13 or 14 years old. I still remember most of the tracks by the sheer impact they had on my soul. Very, very funky album...It was a hit on 8 track and they didn't have fast-forward---needless to say it's all real music. Go on and cop that, you won't find it in stores.

5 out of 5 stars an instant classic.......2002-10-30

you gotta get this if you like the ohio players contains funky worm which is one of the most samples songs in rap history, other tunes include varee is love another classic and pleasure ain't bad either junie morrison did funky worm by himself proving his genius and the end results was his own solo contract the man was a one man band way before imitators like prince and roger troutman hit the scene.
