5 out of 5 stars Excellent.......2007-03-09

AT 52 there isn't many Rap music that I like and I am sorry that it took me so long to find out about this one. I love the record Westside and because I didn't by the album until recently I missed out on a few years of good music. This album is a part of my Itunes. "I never saw him coming".

5 out of 5 stars RnB.......2006-11-03

I don't usually listen to RnB but TQ's pretty good. The best songs here are Darlin' Marry, Your Sister, Bye Bye Baby, The Comeback, and Better Days.

5 out of 5 stars Simply a great R&B album.......2006-05-21

TQ's debut "They Never Saw Me Comin'" is maybe my favorite R&B album ever. The whole album is amazing and contains no skip material. The reason it is so great lies in the perfect blend of excellent production and vocals and lyricism. TQ is an amazing talent, a unique and versatile voice and a great lyricist. He has a soft R&B side but has been hardened by the tough streets of Compton, and he exhibits both sides throughout the album. You hear drivebys and gunshots at times on the album, breaking any soft feelings. TQ writes beautiful ballads that are really deep and inspired. The production is also awesome, handled largely by Mike Mosley, and with other producers like Jazze Pha peppered throughout. They use bass, guitars, and other instrumentals to back TQ's stories perfectly, with upbeat music. "They Never Saw Me Comin'" has often been compared to an Usher or Avant album, but I like it better than any in either of their catalogs and recommend it to all.

The album begins with a beautiful intro, "Change", with relaxing guitars and TQ talking about how "a change is gonna come". Then comes one of my favorite R&B songs of all time, "Westside", which is just a perfectly executed song. The subtle guitar samples from 2Pac's "Dear Mama", with toned piano and string instrumentals make for a great background. TQ reminisces over his young days in Compton, toasting to lost friends and his childhood. "If The World Was Mine" deals with what TQ would do if he ran the world, and the beat is reminiscent of Usher's "U Make Me Wanna". "Paradise" is a beautiful, laid back yet upbeat song with more storytelling and great vocals. "They Never Saw Me Comin'" is a piano-driven ghetto anthem. "Gotta Make That Money" displays both TQ's lyrical and vocal ability, with a guest appearance by Bay Area vet E-40. "I Get Around", another great song, explores his character and ways with women. Another upbeat track, "RememberMelinda", reminisces over a lost loved one. One of the best songs, "One More Lick", has TQ asking the lord for one more chance, it has a great hook. "When I Get Out" is a beautiful, inspired duet with Ericka Yancey, a talk between lovers through incarceration. Too Short assists for the light and funny "Your Sister", and the Latin-influenced "Bye Bye Baby" deals with the murder of a girlfriend. "The Comeback" explores the aftermath of the previous track, with guest appearances by Tha Dogg Pound. "Better Days", an inspirational and deep song, is one of the best on the album and rounds it off excellently.

"They Never Saw Me Comin'" was the amazing debut that brought us the great talent of TQ. I recommend it to all fans of 90s rap and R&B, because it brings the best of both worlds, great lyricism, vocals, and production for an awesome album.
