5 out of 5 stars Amazing Debut.......2006-02-02

Jesse Powell burst onto the scene in 1996 with his hit uptempo single You're All I Need. Powell was a very strong singer with an amazing tenor which was displayed in the second single a remake of Enchantment classic ballad Gloria. The CD is full of killer slow jams like You, You Don't Know and of course The Enchantment Medley where Powell kills It's You That I Need. Pick this CD up, I guartnee you won't be disapointed.

4 out of 5 stars Very promising debut album.......2004-05-24

This self titled debut album from 1996 made a lot of people sit up and pay attention to Jesse Powell, but the kid has unfortunately failed to fulfil the potential that was obviously there. This album is 13 cuts of bass heavy mid 90s-styled R&B with one of the most impressive male vocalists I've heard in a long time, maybe since Luther.

`You' and `Gloria' are the two most celebrated numbers from this album and its not hard to see why. Real sweet stuff. `Lookin' For Love' and `All I Need' ride funky beats, `Spend The Night' uses the often sampled horns from Isaac Hayes `Do Your Thing', and the closing `Is It Over' is a tender cut. The production here is way more classy than most mid 90s R&B and Jesse really shines and gets to show off his full range of vocals. This is a great debut album and I hope JP comes back and changes his game up because he has the sexy looks & voice that has been propelling inferior young talent a long way these days.

5 out of 5 stars "You" gotta get this album!.......2002-11-27

Jesse Powell is perhaps THE most underrated male R&B or male singer today. I first heard of him when I heard the song "You" back in 1998. I thought his voice was incredible and the song was beautiful. I recently purchased his self-titled debut and I'm proud to say that it is very good. Of course the main highlight is the radio R&B hit "You", this one with an extended saxophone solo. But others include "Spend the Night (It's Alright)" which is reminiscent of Lauryn Hill's "Doo Wop (That Thing)." "The Enchantment Medly" is just beautiful and the second half "it's You That I Need" will amaze you with it's motown feel. His twin sisters also appear on this album with background and contributing vocals. If you never heard a song by him, then his voice can be described as a cross between Stevie Wonder and Michael Jackson. It's too bad Mr. Powell isn't that recognized as other male R&B artists, but this album is just beautiful and will remain playing on my stereo often.

5 out of 5 stars Five Stars for Jesse Powell.......2000-03-16

This is truly a wonderful CD that I enjoy from beginning to end. It's about love, for those who are on the love train. It's about many different emotions and Jesse Powell express's it beautifully and wonderfully. It is truly one of those CD's that you enjoy listening to over and over again. I purchased this CD before Jesse release his second CD and still love listening to it now. The song YOU that drawed attention to this artist was placed on this, his first album. I feel that this album did not get the credit that it deserves. But I can tell you that it is worth the purchase to have in your collection at any age.
