Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Can You Handle This?.......2006-11-11

After all the quarrelling and bickering between Graham and his predecessor
Sly Stone, this was the initial release of the group that Graham originally was just going to produce.
You hear Sly's influence, but you can hear GCS start a legacy of their own.
Kicking off with the acapella fun of We've been waiting, this
borrows from Frederick Knight's "I've been lonely for so long." Then you find out immediately that this band is going straight to the all out high energy sect with the Tower of Power horns, driving keyboards and the vocal range of LG. It ain't no fun to me is the first example of the great arrangements by GCS. The funk permeates throughout with the tunes People, Hair and its social political ramifications and the groups first hit, Can You handle it. Lenny Williams is featured on Tell me what it is. Fun soul for your funky bone.

5 out of 5 stars Graham Central Station.......2006-03-01

I was so excited to receive Graham Central Station. I am happy that some one was smart enough to issue the original album on cd instead of greatest hits. I love B sides. This cd brought back a lot of memories.

5 out of 5 stars Everlasitng funk value...I know.......2005-11-18

WOW

I am ripping songs into my iPod and got to the G's. My big sis introduced me to this album waaaaay back in 1976. We were Sly fans and of course we dug Larry. I still listen to this often. I am one to "keepsake". One of those keepsakes was the pricetag on the CD I am ripping. Anyone who lives in Austin TX knows Waterloo Records. "If they didn't have it they would order it". Well I ordered it alright in early 90s...to the tune of $26.99 American (still have the price tag on it!). Funny to see it listed for 9 and change now! Still...no regrets...cause I was FUNKIFIED way back. If you enjoy funk ('aDelic...Bro Johnson...Sly...etc...GET THIS NOW!) And check out the orig "It Ain't No Fun To Me" Al Green off of "Let's Stay Together". Community is a good thing.

5 out of 5 stars here comes the funk.......2005-10-22

This is such a great CD to actually buy, not just download a few tracks. All the songs flow and go together. I love love love the song "why?". That girl can sing! I love to sing with it. Check it out. "Hair" is fun to sing with too. Here comes the funk.

5 out of 5 stars Larry Graham still doin' his thang.......2005-08-27

I was shocked when I found out that Larry Graham wasn't with the Family Stone anymore. But even on his own he did his thang. My dad burned this album for me. I loved it. The song Ain't No Fun To Me makes a lot of sense if you hear it. And Hair is my favorite because it's the same saying as don't judge a book by it's cover. And the song is saying it's not right to judge somebody by their hair. The Jam introduces everybody. Even Larry wrote songs about society like Sly. You can't go wrong with buying this album. And if you're a fan of Sly and the Family Stone then I recommend Graham Central Station. This is a really good group and album.
