Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars There STILL Ain't No 'Bout-A-Doubt It.......2007-01-11

So glad to get my hands back on this album (cd) again. Larry Graham at his best!!!! FORGET ABOUT HIS SOLO CAREER (that balladeer garbage). His best musical moments were BEFORE that, when the only thing I knew about Larry Graham was GRAHAM CENTRAL STATION!!!! This album is a must have. The first 3 cuts on the cd ALONE is enough to make the album a classic.

4 out of 5 stars This ain't nothin but a Warner Bros. P A R T Y! .......2005-09-14

I heard this on the AM dial when radio had some guts and variety.
Hopped on my bike and poured out enough change to go home with my prize.
Oh my, my, my what a prize. Reared on the sounds of Sly and the family stone, this hit the spot.
The Jam took guts right from the start with a overtime, overload of a FUNK with some self expression added. It took me years to realize that the same bass voice that hit the charts in the 80's with the ballad, "One in a Million you" is the lead on "Your Love." Warner Bros. FIRST. That's right, FIRST Black Gold album. Hence this band set the way for The Time, Prince etc. "It's alright", "Water" and "Easy Rider", are the uptempo fun grooves here. "I can't stand the rain" is just an awesome arrangement.
Warner Bros. Party is a fun tribute to the Tower of Power, Doobie Bros. etc. Laid back fun and inspiration "Ole Smokey" and "Luckiest People." round off a super funk outing.
I do believe after the success of this recording Warner Bros. set up a dept. for Black Music that they obviously had overlooked.

5 out of 5 stars Tha Bawwmb!.......2005-01-08

Yeesir! This was recorded at the peak of their magic powers as a 'Fonk' outfit. Every number here is perfect. 'The Jam' still knocks my socks off eeach time I hear it, 'It's Alright' and 'Warner Bros Parrty' slam the grooves and raise dem hands!
Then there's the soulfully, Doo Wap resplendence of 'Your Love,' where all the Gospel truth about Love 'n' stuff just socks it to ya, right in the gut, the way a good fonk ballad should do.
'Water' is a clever bit of tight, backwards production, and has one of Larry's most killer slaps! Their records always finish on a religious, over the top kinda tip, but that really is the only down side to the heaviest funk and groove this of Bootsy and Kool And The Gang. Oh yeah, dont listen to other reviewers when they say, 'Get the greatist hit's,' cause every GCS album upto 'My Radio Sure Sounds Good To Me' is essential funk listening. You hear how they progress from raw funk and southern stars, to more discoish, upbeat songs. Praise tha Lawwd!

3 out of 5 stars Overrated.......2003-08-20

Sure this has GCS's statement of intent "The Jam" and fun part numbers such as "Ain't Nothin But A Warner Brothers Party"
but the overrall quality of the compositions is a significant step down from "Release Yourself" and their monster debut.Best
hear it's highlites on a Greatest Hits package.

5 out of 5 stars gcs: their best.......2003-01-10

As a long time fan, (in my mind, their biggest fan!), this album has always stood out as their greatest body of work!. From their national anthem "The Jam", to the other party favorites, it has stood the test of time. Definitely, a must buy!
