5 out of 5 stars Luther still keepin' the great R&B comin'.......2006-09-02

The Third album in what I like to call "Gettin to know Luther
trilogy" The reason why He's LUTHER.Starting with.......
1.Never Too Much
2.Forever,For Always.For Love
3.Busy Body
4.The Night I fell in love

I couldn't pick one Luther album as my fav. so this album
and The Night I fell in Love are my favs.

I was a little baby when this came out in 83'.I was 2 years old.
But growing up at 3,4,5 years old. I remember my parents having a tape of this and The night i fell in love. They played them alot.I remember I used to misspronounced Luther's last name.
Calling him"Luther Bandross" Forgive me. I was 4 years old.It sounded good then.It sounds good now.To whoever said they used a computer, drum program. It does sounds like that. But it's all live instrumentation. You can do alot in the studio.I love it though.
To another reviewer He didn't misstep. He stepped up his sound.

Now for my review

I wanted your love-Sometimes you think you're in love when you're really not.Or you want love and don't have it.

Busy Body-Being in love with a woman who ain't monogamus.
Killer groove

I'll let you slide-Goin'to a party with your lady and she's doin' other things. But you'll forgive her if she loves you good.

Make me a Believer-My fav. Luther song.I can play all day
You have to feel and believe that your lady wants you to be there with her.

For the sweetness of your love-Willing to go and do anything
just for your lady's love

How many times can we say goodbye-Nice duet with Dionne Warwick
Breaking up and making up can get tiring after a while.
But how do we end it?

Superstar/Until you come back to me-One of Luther's most revered
songs.A 9 min re-working of The Carpenters hit"Superstar" and a verse from Aretha Franklin's song. One of his best slow jams or may be the best.

Buy this.

5 out of 5 stars Mind Blowing.......2005-10-28

Luther Vandross just saying his name spells out the word "Legend". This cd shows just how far Mr. Vandross can take his talent. My two ultimate favorites from this album is "Make me a believer" if you love Luther then this song is just one of his many works of art. I recommend this song to the true lovers. Then its' "Superstar/Until you come back to me(that's what i'm gonna do)" enough said the man is Legend and his music speaks for it self. This CD is a must have for any Luther Vandross fan or just if you love r&b this CD is for you!!!!

5 out of 5 stars His Best.......2005-07-03

Back in early '84, this tape lived in my Walkman. Every song was smokin'!

Just like everyone else, I loved "Superstar" as his vocals did the Carpenters' classic supreme justice and actually made me ache when listening to it - still does.

"For the Sweetness of Your Love" was not only hoppin', but was such a beautiful sentiment (especially considering the lyrics of Prince), that I immediately fell madly in love

"I Wanted Your Love" was a danceable song about a guy who has fame, but not the one he loves.

"Make Me A Believer" is one of the most beautiful ballads I've ever heard in my life and his silken voice makes me just want to melt into the song itself.

"How Many Times Can We Say Goodbye" with Dionne Warwick is a nice duet and was a hit at the time.

"Busy Body" and "I'll Let You Slide" are about the unfaithful girlfriend, but are both good - in different ways. The former is slower and more refined while the second is also danceable.

Like I said, every single song on this is "like butta."

4 out of 5 stars Poor, poor Luther... God Bless the Dead an' thanks for the great music........2005-07-02

There were several Luther Vandross albums I was thinking of revisiting at this unfortunate time of his passing, some that I think artistically were even better than this one, but this is one'a those records that I remember hearing from my childhood CONSTANTLY so I went with it. The production may sound a lil' dated today (but, realistically, how much from back then DOESN'T?) but man, does this music make me feel good. It's a great mixture of uptempo danceable R&B, slinky sensual grooves, and powerful ballads. It almost goes back and forth: 'I Wanted Your Love' is the perfect opener; a light, breezy backbeat and great stylish vocals; the title track slows things down to a hypnotic groove, gettin' thangs hot n' heavy. Then the tempo kicks back into dancefloor mode with the classic '80s banger 'I'll Let You Slide'. 'Make Me a Believer' I think is one' his ALL-TIME best ballads; wrtten and sung, and the duet with Dionne Warwick 'How Many times Can We Say Goodbye' is incredibly lovely on both parts. I tell you what singers these days jus' don't have the soul in them anymore (even when they try they best to). This should never, EVER be overlooked in Luther's repertoire. It's NOT his best in my opinion, but it's also NOT a misstep like some reviewers have claimed. It's fun. lively, beautiful, elegant and stirring like all great music should be. This man had an incredible, beautiful voice that got takin' for granted a lot in the past few years, and hopefully that will change for a lotta others, like it did for me in the past 24 hours. The old saying goes, You don't miss a good thing until it's gone. Well, thats true. Well, I already miss ya, Luther. And I'm sure a lotta others do too.
