Customer Reviews:
i try & angel in the sky !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.......2007-03-01
2 of the most soulful beautiful (so is she) songs ever made!
don't forget these (2) overlooked classics............2005-08-23
since 1978, angela bofill has been one of the most recognizable r&b vocalists out there, giving us such late night classics like "i try", "what i wouldn't do...", "angel of the night", "this time i'll be sweeter", and "under the moon and over the sky". and as with this fine compilation, arista records shows us how great producers make angela's voice shine, particularly on 2 tracks: "can't slow down", and "let me be the one". these 2 songs come from the 1984 release of the latter title and was produced and nearly co-written by mic murphy and david frank, who were better known at that time as the popular 80's electro-funk unit The System. these guys really made good sounds and hip beats to co-exist with angela's vocals as on the fast and frenetic 'can't slow down', and turn 'let me be the one' into one the best slow jams of the early 80's. mic and david deserve a lot of credit for making such cool music and with this compilation, a lot of angela bofill fans will hear it and feel it.
THIS WOMAN CAN SING!!!.......2004-06-08
ANGELA BOFILL HAS A BEAUTIFUL AND POWERFUL VOICE SHE SINGS VERY WELL. I HAD ENJOYED HER DURING THE 1980'S. SHE SINGS SOME BEAUTIFUL SONGS AND I LIKE HER VOICE. THIS CD HAS A LOT OF HER BEST SONGS THAT SHE'S RECORDED. IF YOU LIKE OLD SCHOOL R&B THEN I WOULD RECOMMEND THAT YOU BUY THIS CD IT IS A MUST HAVE FOR ANY ANGELA BOFILL FAN!!!!
Finally, a compilation that does Ms. Bofill justice!.......2003-06-11
All of this great and incomparable diva's best songs on one CD. Of course it includes such timeless hits like "I Try", "This Time I'll Be Sweeter","Tonight I Give In" and others but it also includes some album cuts that were not released as singles and some archive photos. I recommend this CD to anyone who likes good and fine music. This CD will convince you why Angela Bofill truly DOES have the voice of an angel.
Definitive? Yes. The Collection? Not Yet........2002-11-07
Definitive? Yes. The Collection? Not Yet. Don't get me wrong. I love this CD. It practically has a permanent home in my stereo. The mere fact that this CD features a broader variety of Miss Bofill's songs (moreso than the previously released "The Best of Angela Bofill") makes it "definitive" and a nice addition to any Bofill collection.
With this CD you get everything you love about Angela Bofill: her classic ballads, her Latin rhythms, her earthy low tones and soaring high notes! It's all there. So, I get "Bo-filled" about 3 or 4 times a week with this CD.
I have to admit, however, I was shocked and annoyed when I found out that "Break It To Me Gently" was not included. What's up with that?!! So far, my only consolation to this gross and careless oversight has come from reading other reviews. I now realize that many Bofill fans are also disappointed because their favorite songs were omitted from this "Definitive Collection", too.
The solution?: The next compilation of Angela Bofill's best recordings must be a minimum of 2 or 3 CDs! (This is NOT a novel idea. So, why hasn't it been done yet?) It will have to include: "The Feelin's Love", "People Make the World Go Round", "Te Amo", "I Wanna Love Somebody", "All She Wants", "Are You Leaving Me Now?", "Soul of Mine" and, of course, "Break It To Me Gently". Such a collection will be more than definitive; it will be "The Optimum Collection" of Miss Angela Bofill.
