"Let's take a shower together." Between Al Green and Luther Vandross, and way before <I>South Park</I>'s Chef, came Teddy Pendergrass, the king of the soul seduction masters for a half-decade after his mid-'70s departure from Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes. <I>Greatest Hits</I> gives the solo Pendergrass his due with 15 signature rubdowns. The greatest of the great, 1980's "Love T.K.O.," ends the album's survey of TP's Philadelphia International years; two songs cut for Elektra after the singer's paralyzing 1982 auto accident round it out. If you haven't heard these enticing tunes or thought about the man they called Teddy Bear in years, this is a reminder you need. <I>--Rickey Wright</I>

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars teddy pendergrass greatest hits.......2007-03-04

i recently purchased the cd "teddy pendergrass-greatest hits" on the right stuff label 1998. great collection of his hits including my favs "only you", "shout and scream" (both great funky tunes with pendergrass sounding a bit like tom jones), "i don't love you anymore", "the more i get the more i want", "when somebody loves you back", "life is a song worth singing" "turn off the lights", "can't we try" (pendergrass singing his heart out) and "love t.k.o.". i wish his other great funky tune "get up get down get funky get loose" was on this compilation. the music is terrific with first class musicians and pendergrass delivers on ballads and up tempo tunes with his powerful raspy great voice. "greatest hits" is a great collection. teddy pendergrass to me is the greatest male soul singer ever. his phrasing, his voice and style is truly brilliant.

5 out of 5 stars My Man Teddy.......2007-01-14

I alreqdy had the "A Touch of Class" CD but I got this one as a Christmas gift I like it just as much as the other CD, so to go along with that review "it has my favorite song on it "Come and go with Me and other favorites Turn Off the Lights, Close the Door, Love T.K.O. and When Somebody Loves You Back. I love it, it brings back memories.

4 out of 5 stars A good starting point........2007-01-10

For the uninitiated, this collection of Teddy Pendergrass' greatest hits from 1977-90 is a good starting point. The Cd plays for 79 minutes and David Nathan's liner notes provide a fine overview--musically and in writing--of Teddy's most prolific period. This is NOT, however, a definitive collection--for that , get either the "{Anthology" or "Significant Singles" double-CD packages. A great compilation but one that's neither definitive nor conclusive.

4 out of 5 stars Teddy P........2007-01-10

Come on. Can you really go wrong with Teddy P.? My only issue with this CD is that it was not long enough.

4 out of 5 stars Powerful package from a TRUE talent!.......2005-11-12

At 37 I'm old enough to remember all of Teddy's solo work when it was first released and being played on local R&B radio. My moms bought the albums, 45s or 8 tracks and we enjoyed the music. Now that I'm older and have listened to lots and lots of "performers" with no real vocal talent, I've truly come to appreciate a genuine talent whose passion is truly felt in his music. That's almost non-existent today.

I like all the songs. This is a good collection. However being a close follower of Teddy for decades, if I were building the collection and were limited to only one CD I would have omitted the following: "Life is a Song", "The More I Get", "Shout and Scream" & "Can We Try", and instead included: "Hold Me", "Love is The Power", "It Don't Hurt Now" & "My Latest, My Greatest Inspiration". I think that would be the ultimate, single CD Teddy Collection.

Overall this CD is well worth the money; far from disappointing. But I believe that many long time Teddy fans would make the same substitutions I suggested.
