It seems that all one has to do in R&B is maintain the status quo and the fans will open their hearts and wallets. Critics might yearn for innovation, but as song after song parades by in a blurring montage of predictability, it would appear that simply coloring within the lines is what the public wants. Into this realm walks Dru Hill as singer Sisqó with his maiden solo effort. Arguments will now be heard about how a solo record from the lead singer of an otherwise anonymous group differs from a record from said anonymous group. Who cares? Sisqó can sing and work the emotional heart out of the songs on Unleash the Dragon. We're talking getting the job done right and within those confines Sisqó does that, with an appealing growl and love-man swagger. --Amy Linden

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars A Successful Solo Effort That Fueled A Craze For Thong Underwear (Thank You)!.......2006-06-24

Sisqo's solo debut entitled "Unleash The Dragon" was released in November of 1999. Though album sales sold moderately at first, as songs such as the infectious "Thong Song" and the melodic "Incomplete" rose up the charts, "Unleash The Dragon" exploded in popularity and ultimately fueled a craze for thong underwear! I can personally assure you that this album contains more than just a popular spring break anthem; from start to finish, this is a solid R&B album. The highlights of the album include: "Unleash The Dragon," "Got To Get It," "Thong Song," and "You Are Everything (Remix)" featuring Ja Rule.

Warning: this album does include some baby makin' music!

5 out of 5 stars The man, the myth, the legend!!.......2006-01-20

Formerly of Dru Hill, Sisqo is taking America by storm, proving he's much much much more than a one-hit wonder. Get this fantastic solo debut. Don't miss, or you'll regret it.

4 out of 5 stars A VERY GOOD ALBUM........2005-12-23

Sisqo is a great entertainer and he doesn't have the best singing voice, but he surely knows how to make a song his own. Besides his voice, he knows how to dazzle on stage. As one of the lead vocals for the famous group DRU HILL, Sisqo always stood out from the rest and he was never was hated being the lead singer like Beyonce. UNLEASH THE DRAGON is a great solo debut and Sisqo captured everyone's attention with songs like "THE THONG SONG" and "INCOMPLETE". Suprisingly, Sisqo fell off the map and has disappeared for a long time but he's coming out with a new album in 2006. Be prepared for THE LAST DRAGON which will blow everyone away.

3 out of 5 stars Sisqo Kid's Debut.......2005-10-03

Mark Andrews AKA Sisqo of R&B group Dru Hill brings music fans his debut, "Unleash the Dragon". Sisqo is EASILY one of the best male vocalists of his time. He, KCi Hailey (Jodeci), and Wanya Morris (Boyz II Men), are arguably the best of their time. He and Usher had their problems in the past, but if you ask me, Sisqo can sing and dance much better than Usher, truth be told. Listen to Sisqo sing, he sings with his soul, he sings with everything is has. This man does not seem to believe in half-assed singing! (That's a good thing.) Sisqo even added soul to an up tempo track like "Thong Song". Come on people, how many male artists can do that? Sisqo is the only one I can think of...and maybe Tyrese.
I really enjoyed Sisqo's debut. His lyrics are very creative, production is on point, and he separates himself from his Dru Hill band mates. Three of the album's most notable songs were the ones which were released; "Thong Song", "Got to Get It", and "Incomplete". "Thong Song" had music listeners going crazy when it was first released. I remember all the attention the song and its video created. The catchy chorus and innovative production were key reasons why this song did so well. No one had ever created a song about a thong before, and Sisqo did it and did it well. "Incomplete" is touching and beautiful. It's a really nice love song. Usually love songs follow the same or similar lyrical formula, but Sisqo was again innovate, with lyrics. "I can make believe I have everything, but I can't pretend that I don't see, that without you girl, my life in incomplete.." Wow. "Addicted", Your Love is Incredible" and "How Can I Love You Tonight?" also help make this album as good as it is.
This album is good, but it's not a classic nor is it a masterpiece. However, it is better than your average, everyday R&B album. It's apparent that Sisqo put time and effort into writing his lyrics and making his vocals sound as good as they do on this album.
I recommend this album to anyone who wants to hear true vocal talent. I just can't say enough about his beautiful voice, *tear*. It's just like I was at McDonald's..I'm lovin' it!

4. Addicted
5. Got to Get It

5 out of 5 stars Unleash the Dragon.......2005-05-15

I remember this album when I was in the 7th grade. I love this album and played it constantly. The new sound is the further evolution of Sisqo's charismatic and melodic strength. This album is a collection of driving dance-floor movers, sensuous midnight ballads, and even pop-leaning fare. The theme of the album is Sisqo's lyrical desire for romance: both physical and cerebral. This album has been certified 5x Platinum. Remember, this was 1999-2000.
