The second album from Philadelphia's Musiq keeps the quality level high, mixing equal parts Luther Vandross, Stevie Wonder, and D'Angelo to good effect. Musiq's voice has noticeably matured--the puppy edge of Aijuswanaseing is gone--resulting in a rich tone that reflects a stylistic progression in his music. He's also expanded into new areas, including a slight touch of bossa nova on the excellent "Half Crazy." Meanwhile, "Caught Up" and "Religious" have a late-'80s Big Daddy Kane and Public Enemy feel, heralding a tougher hip-hop sound than the spangle-eyed, jelly-kneed love paeans Musiq included on the first album (such as "Girl Next Door" and "143"). Having said that, Aijuswanaseing remains the essential Musiq starting point, as there's little here that matches the genius of "Speechless" or "You Be Alright." But for those who want to hear the sound of an artist growing up, Juslisen is required listening. --Jake Barnes
Customer Reviews:
Musiq - Juslisen .......2007-01-30
Musiq's sophomore album was "Juslisen" (2002) an eighteen track release from the Philadelphia singer. After the introduction Musiq get's things started with the upbeat "Newness", getting to know a woman and asking her questions. A couple of decent track's follow and lead up to the impressive single "Half Crazy" a track where Musiq sings about moving from a friendship to a relationship. With the deep "Time" Musiq provides another standout reflecting on his own growth and love. My favourite track on this release is the slow love ballad "Don't Change" - Musiq provides an outstanding track about life and love - in a track about timeless love. Musiq shines on this powerful and heartfelt track about true love. Musiq pays his respects to his parents on "Motherfather", then drops another memorable slow jam with "Something". The bonus track is a semi-decent remix of "If I Woulda Knew" which was featured on the first album. The music on "Juslisen" vibes well, Musiq provides a lot of upbeat track's, I agree with reviewer J. Highsmith who found the highlights of this album to be in the slow jams. 3.5.
70's Soul Music for the Year 2002.........................2007-01-14
Musiq delivers with his second album Juslisen. His Stevie Wonder-esque vocals mix well over the bumping groovy beats. R & B album of the year 2002.

LOVE IS.......2006-02-23
Ever since I started to get into soul music, Musiq has always been the soundtrack to my life in one way or another (when it came to love anyway). It's gotten to the point where I can almost relate to every song. On his sophmore release, the sounds blend effortlessly into each other and have a strong influence of soul that could only come from your parents' 12" collection (as shown on the back cover). Each song deals with every possible angle of love, be it falling for your best friend ("Halfcrazy"), falling in love for the first time ("Newness", "Babygirl"), reconnecting with someone from back then ("Caught Up", "Girlnextdoor"), or even showing love to your parents ("motherfather"). But none can ever reach the emotional affections of "Dontchange", where he expresses everlasting love no matter the circumstances. For the most part, this album had me remeniscing on alot of things. It certainly helped me put things into perspective. This is Neo-Soul at it's finest. Thank you, Musiq.
It must be me........2006-02-22
Half crazy is the Only song worth anything to me. I'm sorry forks, but Musiq-music nor his voice sticks out for me. A few songs even sound the same to me. Different stokes for different folks, I guess.
Could he be the new front man of neo?.......2005-08-08
This album is fun and and serious at times. I love the fact Musiq took the time to appreciate the basic necessesities of life; to love and be loved. I hate interludes because they interrupt my flow. I really think Musiq has started something new here. Something good. There is only one track that I'm only half crazy about, religious. This album is a great deal of art.
