On Walking Off the Buzz, Blessid Union of Souls skate from adult contemporary soul to roots rock, failing to do either well. Lead singer Eliot Sloan has a fine R&B-suited voice, but he attempts to add unnatural depth, ache, and character. It sounds like every few seconds someone tightly grips his neck then releases it. With forgettable jangly acoustic-guitar rhythms, uninspired keyboard support, and ho-hum love lyrics and pointless pop-culture references, these songs are about as deep as a kiddie pool (which makes their by-the-sheet-music cover of the Beatles' "Revolution" insultingly misplaced). With the exception of "Stone Glass Window," which flashes an attractively toothy Southern-rock smile, this album is Mellencamp without the melodrama, Skynyrd without the scrotum, Kravitz without the charisma, P.M. Dawn without the poetry. --Beth Massa

Customer Reviews:
This band rocks!.......2005-05-05
Man I had never heard of this guys before last night, almost no one at the show had. But I am pretty sure they got quite a few new fans including me. They played a free show for the soldiers and man were they good. There are only a few bands out now a days the interest me but these guys do, I am more into bands like Led Zeppelin and older bands. These guys put on a great show. The singer was jumping around the stage and was very energetic and great at entertaining. The drummer was great and even played a drum solo which is rare these days. Both guitarist had incredible skill and one played an incredible solo over top of a Led Zeppelin song and the bassist keeps the rythym going great. They even did a cover of a queen song and man did the singer nail every note, he did justice to freddy mercury. They even started throwing out free cds of there new and upcoming album perception which is due out in a few days. Then at the end of the show they made sure to stick aroung and sign autographs and I got to meet the band. Right after the show I went home and ordered all of there cds. check these guys out people. Another cool band to check out is silvertide who has a very 70's sound.
their best yet!.......2002-07-19
This album is, in my opinion, absolutely spectacular. Eliot Sloan has a voice that is so beautiful,if you just sit and listen to it, you're gonna cry..Eddie's beats are just KICKIN. Tony is GREAT on the bass.. and Jeff is extraordinary on the guitar. CP plays... ok.. just about EVERYTHING. Bass... Drums..Guitar...Keyboard... AND he does backing vocals. the only thing bad i can say about the guy is that he hates RENT. they're really nice guys too.. i've known em since i was 13....
It's great!.......2001-09-13
Great CD, great music, touching lyrics and vocals. I was angered by the editorial on this CD. I almost doubt that the writer of that ever heard the CD, or even likes this type of music. Regardless, this is a great CD, don't be turned off by the editorial. Give it a chance, you'll love it. I do.
New Sound with Strong Roots in early Rock.......2001-08-13
Love this CD! Lead singer Elliot Sloan has a terrific voice, and co-wrote a lot of the songs too! I had only heard a couple of their songs before I purchased the CD, but was not disappointed. They have created their own unique sound and show a lot of influence from early rock & roll history, blending acoustic & electric strings with strong vocals and meaningful lyrics. Enjoyed both the slow and fast songs, Standing at the Edge of the Earth is a beautiful ballad where Elliot Sloan really excels in vocal talent. Without thinking about it you catch yourself singing along. Great Pop Sound, unique group with a sound all their own - these guys are leaders not followers in the contemporary pop music/easy listening scene, and new sounds are often greeted with scepticism. Some love 'em and some hate 'em - I love 'em!
Walking away.......2001-06-07
If you've never heard BUOS before and love the new "pop" sound coming out of every other artist on the radio, this is the album to buy-- plenty of catchy tunes and funky rythems. Very little of this album actually carries the deeper musicality that can be heard on their earlier albums, a good starter album for new listeners, but older fans will find little to like and much to be disapointed in.
